For sure I would consider Dexed, or other emulations. I was wanting to use operator if its within the rules, since I have it already and have barely learned to use it...hariossa wrote: Sat Jan 02, 2021 7:10 pmWhy not use Dexed instead?MalToné wrote: Sat Jan 02, 2021 6:56 pmSame question about Ableton's operator, but from a different angle: So does this part of the rules mean operator is OK?jasinski wrote: Sat Jan 02, 2021 12:48 am Quick Check:
I think I’m going to use Ableton’s Operator. It's enough of DX7 emulation that I believe it falls within the bounds of the rules.

Does that apply only to physical workstations or DAWs as well?

I was playing around with KORG PS-3300 Simulation earlier, forgot just how great it is, so many fine options availableSaffran wrote: Sat Jan 02, 2021 6:40 pm Full Bucket Music.

I had considered Bx oberhausen as it’s got a 14 day demo, or a price of 29.99 atm, shame/lucky i don’t have a debit or Credit card

I spent the even thinking about Operator. It's actually more an emulation of DX100-DX11 generation of Yamaha FM synths. These had wave forms beyond just sine waves and they had only 4 oscillators. The big differences with Operator are drawing your own wave forms (easily avoidable), and the built in filter which could somewhat recreated with an external filter (if using the hardware version).
I dunno. It seems like this month's idea, while a very fun and interesting set up, has myriad pocket universes full of exceptions, rabbit holes, and grey areas to argue over.
(For example, using a hardware Roland LA synth seems legit in my mind. The combined sample/digital wave form was the whole idea behind the LA synth concept. If you take away the attack samples, you might as well choose a different synth.)

People using Diva are I would hope using only one emulation, and not mixing and matching from different modules. Otherwise the rules are pointless.

Just wait until someone asks if certain VSTs count as hardware because they require a dongle...jasinski wrote: Sat Jan 02, 2021 8:38 pm I dunno. I prefer months where we are all suffering or enjoying the same synth. That way we have some more understand when it comes to the voting phase. We know what it took, or didn't take, to coax the sounds from the beast we're riding.

Tape effects are not allowed, right? If they are, are there any tape VSTs that emulate a specific model?

Like many others I am considering Synth1 this month. Any word on whether it is allowed?

From the website (translated, hopefully correctly): "Functionally, it is modeled after the red synth Clavia NORD LEAD2..." Without some drastic modifications to the rules, that one sure seems like it should be just fine.Tensorman wrote: Sun Jan 03, 2021 4:47 am Like many others I am considering Synth1 this month. So I can record HW synth and then splice and rearrange any way I want while retaining original pitch/speed/direction, right? Just want to be sure I can glitch recorded material manually (it gives so much possibilities for HW usage instead of emulation)

@doctorbob; your photo caused me to look around the house for my casio tone. Sadly no success yet. It does have drums.

I'd say no, 'cause you're using the DAW as a sampler. You can freeze VSTs but can't touch the audio once it's recorded. My understanding would be that once your audio is in the DAW you can eq/fx to your hearts content but no slice 'n' dice.fairplay wrote: Sun Jan 03, 2021 6:40 am So I can record HW synth and then splice and rearrange any way I want while retaining original pitch/speed/direction, right? Others may want to correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyway, is Nord Micro Modular a supposedly allowed hardware? That's the only of the two HW synths left here, the others I sold them all! (The other I still got is CASIO VZ-8M)
