Hello all.
im trying out FL studio.
Creating a song by using patterns and then placing the patterns into an arrangement is inconvenient for me.
it is possible to record midi without pattern sequencer, record directly into the playlist / arrangement. like in all other DAWs let’s say like in cubase, one VSTi or sampler per track and record directly to arrangement / playlist ?

Hi,
You can.
Just Select song mode on top and drag your samples, instruments directly on the playlist tracks and make the tracks content locked ( right click menu on track header )

^^^ but it makes a record into a pattern with the same name as the dropped instrument ...AFAIK the pattern subsystem can't be ignored, btw. MIDI loop recording gonna exists only in the next major FL version so at this moment only audio can work like this https://ask.audio/articles/a-quick-guid ... -fl-studio, in FL 21 every loop will able to create a new pattern automagically

Even thou it will create patterns when I record into playlist in song mode, I can just hide and ignore patterns right ? And do all the recording and editing in the playlist arrangement. correct ?

I always work in Song Mode / Playlist
You can drag and drop samples and loops directly from the browser in the Playlist and it automatically creates a channel in the channel rack.
If I want to record MIDI data, I create a new pattern and place it also empty one times in the Playlist. Then if the song in record modus starts, it records everything, MIDI and also automations, but I use always an own pattern for everything. That's the advantage of patterns, because you can record different things in own patterns and name them individual in the Playlist.
And if you don't loop an area in the Playlist, you can record as long as you want, like in Cubase!
MIDI files I drag and drop in the channel rack to the target synth.

The good news is there are lots of videos and tutorials on FL Studio. So, just search for something you used to do and add "in FL Studio".
Example: "How to record midi in FL Studio".
You don't have to use the Pattern workflow, as clipnotic said, it is a "normal DAW". But, if your life revolves around patterns and beats, it will do that too.

Doubt unless the Linux userbase grows considerably to something of economic value.maggot22 wrote: Sun Jan 03, 2021 7:01 pm i wonder, will we ever get a normal support to use the normal DAW on normal Linux?
FL is a normal DAW for sure. But it offers linear and non-linear workflow. With the introduction of instrument/audiotracks you have the behavior of other daws with the FL gimmicks on top.

Many videos but not a single video that’s shows how to work in FL studio by recording midi directly to playlist arrangement tracks, without using pattern editor.Murky wrote: Sun Jan 03, 2021 4:17 am The good news is there are lots of videos and tutorials on FL Studio. I don’t use loops or midi files. I record my own midi.clipnotic wrote: Sun Jan 03, 2021 3:50 am

So you say when you record midi you first record in the pattern editor then place it into playlist ? cuz It’s not possible to record directly to playlist ?
