Both are very similar and I can feel at home with either one. I need to choose one of them as I don't find a point in having them the two. Anyway, I'm not selling S1 yet, but I might soon when I need some cash!
Out of curiosity...
What do you prefer in Cubase compared to S1??

It's not worth selling S1. All you'll get is ~$150, which means you can also get it at that price :D

1. The hardware integration. Although this depends on the hardware, in my case both MODX 6 and Keylab 49 integrate better with Cubase.
2. The GUI. I think Cubase has the best GUI among the DAWs. The contrast is great and I like the feel and colours more.
3. Groove Agent SE is better (for me) than Impact XT. The kits and the whole drumming is better.
4. Midi tools are more.
5. I have spent much more years with Cubase in the past, so I know it better.
6. I trust Cubase more than Studio One regarding functionality and reliability.
7. The midi file viewer works with two speeds (the host and the original tempo), while in Studio One doesn't switch between the two.

Those are mostly what in my mind. Studio One has some benefits over Cubase, but mostly I can live without.

Anyway, as I said, I can still use Studio One happily. It can do the job as well and most of the essential things can be done easily. I just might spend more time in S1 than Cubase (that means I'm faster in Cubase).
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

For me the "workflow" required to add automation and the fact that I couldn't find a way to control parameters of VSTs without MIDI learn with my controller were a big no-no.

I could probably live with the 1st, but 2nd is a deal breaker, unless you know a way to work around this? E.g. how to map a controller knobs to Massive X's macros?

MIDI learn in Cubase is definitely a pain. Needs a major overhaul.

What do you mean you couldn't? Just add an automation and select the parameter you want to automate!

The macros of Massive X are already mapped to Quick controls (which I did mapped them to my knobs in my Keylab). You can find them written in the image below on the left.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Ok, thanks! I'll have a look into that next time I'm bothered to install Cubase. Surprisingly they f**ked the process up even more recently, with each component having its separate installer...

Is it possible to switch quickcontrol pages via MIDI? Because that's what always bugged me about it, the inability to use more than 8 parameters at a time, and the need to operate the software to switch through quickcontrol parameter pages.

I haven't left YET,but the idea they still haven't even attempted to make a better BROWSER,is just depressing! Comparing Cubase's mediabay to the S1 browser, just makes me angry. Presonus, 5 versions is alot for a drag n drop daw to not include better options for browsing folders, files, audio data... I love S1,but I think they need to re-focus on what makes S1 great, and that's workflow, but NOOOOOOO lets make a show page..smfh

With this I really have to agree... This was the biggest waste of developing time since the invention of the wheel...
Image Line already made this mistake with their silly Performance mode which basically noone uses apart from a bit toying around and perhaps a few lovers...

Sometimes one really has to wonder on which base these decisions are made... and has to doubt about the brain health of such people...
There are thousands of shortcomings and bugs... but instead of adressing them they decide to implement such a nonsense...

You know what... if the majority is happy, all work is done and there is still time left...well do with this time whatever you like...
But at this current state of Studio One this was a complete disaster...
I think the poll recently here showed it more than clear... from all who participated there was one lonely person who said he/she uses it... one!!!

Thx!! :tu:
Especially the points about Groove Agent/Impact XT and Midi tools/offered Midi plugins I see the same way...

I believe a lot of these decisions are being made from the perspective of a playing musician, such as an active band member playing an instrument. At least the owner and employees are mostly musicians. And their whole motto was making tools for musicians by musicians, or something along those lines.

That's why the show page seemed like a good idea, probably for someone that performs live with a band or an analog instrument. But, today's youth and the means of application have been geared towards the clip launching side of things for other companies, which Presonus completely missed the boat, other then programming their Atom to operate under Ableton Live.

Confused yet? Yes, it seems like the people making the decisions aren't really electronic musicians.

Did they not notice re show page that the world is in a middle of a pandemic and there are NO live gigs. Whatever about the need for one in normal times, actually putting this in now as a primary feature is beyond stupid.

Wolfgang Kundrus was the original genius behind Studio One, when he left and the problems began, simple as that. I was an early user and although it didn't have a lot of the features of other DAWs it was rock solid. When Wolfgang left all sorts of bugs appeared in subsequent releases, culminating with me leaving because of the "save as" bug. This hi lighted the total incompetence of the the support and software team TBH. All this coupled with a toxic Studio One forum mod and shills despatched to other forums to divert criticism really ranked of desperation.

Let's be honest here for a second, most of your issues are probably related to running on Apple hardware and their O/S. It seems that Apple users have the most gripes and complaints about software that was initially developed for PCs and not properly emulated. This can be seen throughout the entire audio industry, translating existing code or dual coding along with Apple's software updates make it very difficult to be without bugs and hiccups.
