Some vst's can tax the cpu. Should I be worried when it gets to 70 degrees or higher?

I've had this machine for serveral years and it does the job using Reaper and a bunch of vst synths. I'd like to keep it tthat way :D Thanks

(PS I'm not a computer expert, I'm sure some will read this and thing I'm being a big girl's blouse but there you go, I can take it)

Kelvin, Fahrenheit, or Celsius?

And which bit of 'it'. CPU? Case?

Make sure you clean the fan from time to time... it's really critical

can that be done without opening it up?

Can you see the fan? Is it full of dust?

Should you be worried about your laptop getting hot? No, but you should definitely be concerned if it starts flirting with other laptops and going to girls nights out.

Normally, yeah. Look for the gating and fan on the bottom side, and "shoot" blow from below. :) Should produce some dust cloud from the gating on the side then.

Note that it's different on every laptop though, so, it might not be possible on your laptop without opening it up.

So CPU temperature? Checking the CPU model will tell you the maximum safe temperature. But it'll shutdown if it gets near anything dangerous to the chip.

Thermal shutdown for an i5 ie danger level, is over 100C. 70 seems a bit high to want perched near your nads, but its well within spec for a modern CPU.

You can check the specifics for your given processor at the intel site, look for the T-Junction temperature eg for a 5th gen i5:

Cant hurt to check the fan ports, tho, see if they look in need of a wire brush clean.

(That's a joke. Dont use a wire brush. Seriously.)

OTOH, if your case is reaching 70C, then you now have a Sonay Vaio branded hotplate, and you should keep it very far from your nads.

Who doesn't like shooting blow?

I'm not going to open this up. Hard to tell if there's excess dust tbh, I don't think it's too bad. Might shoot some blow later though :D

You needn't worry about my nads, though i appreciate the concern. the laptop is on my desk

70C is not tragic.
