@SLiC already mentioned that elsewhere, but it warrants its own thread, I think.

Renoise finally supports VST3 + there's some other smaller changes, incl. dedicated sidechain device.

For now there's some issue with Waves' waveshells preventing me to even launch it, but otherwise I hear it runs well.

Yup- every VST3 plug in worked for me other than waves (s)hell (V10), I just got rid of the VST 3 waves shell for now and Renoise is up and running!

hope they gonna solve the cross-pattern automation one day

as I see it still can be done only with one-shot LFOing

The current behavior in Renoise when drawing a curve between pattern 0 and pattern N is :

insert automation points in between every pattern spanning 0 and N
insert a draggable control point between every automation point
Therefore, if I want to have an automation following a curve spanning N patterns I have to drag N points to shape it, which is a total PITA if N is large.

It would be lovely to drag only 1 point that would control the shape of the whole curve spanning patterns 0 - N. I am aware that tools exist that somewhat allow it by drawing steps of any shape, but it makes so much sense to have it in vanilla Renoise, since we have the curve option now !

My experinance of trackers pre-Renoise makes me think just about every feature is an amazing (we didn't have automation on Amiga trackers ;-)) but then I am in the (second) honeymoon period with trackers so will probably hit walls and find limitations and frustrations soon...for now I am still learning!

Now VST3 is out of the way (sort of a necessary maintenance feature like hidpi/scaling) there can hopefully be a concentration on new features and your fixes...Personally I would love to see 'fill' option like in the Polyend Tracker....Boolean, random, scales etc...it's a ton of fun and almost makes the workflow modular like.

Always going to be a few teething problems when introducing VST3 after a small closed beta, but I have to say I am pretty impressed with the job they did, only Waves seems to be reported as not working on the Renoise forum so far, that's a pretty good job :tu:

Been a while since I used Renoise but this is great that it has proper VST Instrument support, although it would hard to re-customise working in a spreadsheet way. Sort of like going back to using a Command Line Interface from the 80's to Icon based evolution of Atari ST / Amiga.

WIMP interfaces should have stayed on photocopiers, bring back DOS!

Having spent years looking at 2 little LCD lines on my Octotrack, renoise seems like a very visual way to do per slice fx and automation to me!

it has to be used with MIDI keyboard, during the recording it automagically creates new phrases(patterns) when you keep pauses on your playing then the recording can be cleaned with another extension after it can be sampled<>resampled/effected, triggered differently by parts/chopped whatever you want
>>

has a really creative workflow, excel sheet is in it mainly for tweaking/controlling the system not for composing :D check the video, the workflow of it simply can't be reproduced in DAWs

the key is the phrase system in it otherwise it would be just a simple tracker with VST supporting and done

Workflow seems more complicated, slow and painful to learn from how I remember using Octamed back in the 1990's. There is a Scottish guy who does proper video tutorials on Renoise, who would provide a better narrated example of what's going on in how it's done.
