RC 4.0 4 ways loads a new instance of a VST when you add a track regardless of the multitimbral setting. I have tried direct editing of the .RCinst files without success. Am I doing something wrong?

When you change the setting for multitimbral, be sure and close RC and restart (RC). Just checked mine, and it works like it is supposed to..dave4761 wrote: Mon Jan 04, 2021 7:36 pm RC 4.0 4 ways loads a new instance of a VST when you add a track regardless of the multitimbral setting. That is Settings -> VSTi tab and the circle check below the VST you are using..
When unchecked, it will create a new instance every time.. when checked, you should see a choice to create a new instance, or use the existing instance that is already created, when you use the VST drop down for the track.
Also, I had this issue once before as well, and this is a link to the fix.. it is the last entry of the post..

First make sure the "Multitimbral plug-in" setting is checked (this replaces editing the rcINST file
)

There is one small bug here, because the plug-in does not become multi-timbral immediately, you need to restart the program.
If you use the plug-in for a track, the instrument menu will allow you to use an existing instance or a new one. In this example 2 tracks are using their own instance, so you can use one of those for a third track, or load a new instance:

Please let me know if there is a plug-in which does not work well as a multi-timbral plug-in.
Thanks,
Attila

I was also going to suggest to remove the vst from the list, restart RC, then re-add the VST. (rather than edit the inst file)

Thanks kindly for the responses. Very much appreciated. Who'd a thought: "Turn it off and turn it back on again!" Again, now working and thanks so much.
