what do you mean by 'ping the filter'?

Exciting the filter when self-oscillating, or on the brink of self-oscillation, either with a brief snippet of noise or by producing a DC offset click somehow. I'm having difficulty producing anything "clicky". In Diva, you can get a nice thumpy click by closing the pulse width positively in the Dual VCO mode I believe. I need a click! Any click will due!

Jupiter 8 didn't exactly have highly resonant filters. They were more smooth and rounded, rather than "pingy", shall we say.

But the "Reso" knob in the Calibration section does have a nice effect on the resonance tho.

Being the captain obvious, a bit of decay and having sustain not on max setting (ENV-2) will make things 'clickier', but I kinda agree with you, not too much clicky I guess..

Quick test, reminds me of my hardware JP8a more than any other VSTi so far, one instance and no tricks
Setting the Tone settings to VCO - about 2, drive 1, and reso to 2.5 gets a similar sound to my JP8

Hi, thanks for sharing.
I assume this is the plugin alone or are you rotating between the hardware and plugin?
also what is the JP8a or is the a a typo? and it is just a hardware Jupiter 8?
Curious.
thanks

JP8a is the earlier 12Bit Hardware version, vs the JP8b which is the 14bit one, which the plugin is based on
I provided some audio samples of my synth to TAL for calibration
Due to my synth sounding different, I think he added the tone controls for closer matching, as my synth is a bit brighter and has more resonance. Much brighter than my other Roland analogs as well

Thanks for adding the pan pots on the SC panel as I had suggested
It sounds nice with arp's for instance.

When turning up the VCO calibration knob, the sound becomes very bright. Did any hardware ever sound like that?!
It sounds nice for cutting brass and things like that, though
As long as one doesn't go beyond 12 o'clock or so, at very high settings there is a lot of strange noise being added on high octaves.

Hehe
The unison mode can sound pretty impressive, even for pads since there seem to be 12x7 voices
And it doesn't even cause problems for my CPU, I could not play chords like that on Repro 5.
