A friend forwarded this to me earlier ...

From my limited knowledge, this appears to do much of the same as Ableton Live (all bar the video sequencing). Am I right in thinking this or have I missed the point completely?

As I see it, ACID is not a live tool, neither a sequencer you can actually "play". The point of Ableton´s Live is the intuitiveness(?) and workflow, ready to inspire and make you work fast, as well as focusing all the program to work "on the fly" for live usage. I find Acid's interface quite clear, but with strange working methods the same way Soundforge is.

I'm Ableton all the way...

i use both constantly...

acid 4 is really good for building composite sounds and whole pieces really fast (as long as 'found sounds' are good enough as source material)

live 4 is good for performance and large scale composition structuring by sequencing scenes (to do this in acid 4 you have to do a lot of block copying)...it definitely supports midi better than acid 4

now, acid 5 seems to refine the capabilities of acid 4...what i'm looking for is much much better automation and vsti handling and vsti navigation...

if i want to do midi composition, i expect to have to continue to use cubase or live or fl studio, then render unto wav and jump back into acid...

however, i'm giving sonar 4 a good look now...perhaps live 4.x + sonar 4.x trumps acid 5 + cubase sx 3.x (although i hear cubase sounds better--but how much better?)
overthrow KRAPITALISM ! you have nothing to lose but your claims.
