Ah, well there's the problem. Your documents folder contains YOUR DATA, which has nothing to do with running the operating system. Therefore it can be easily stored on another drive or partition. A symbolic link to a different location would solve that problem.wagtunes wrote: Wed Jan 06, 2021 3:33 pm
Okay, here's the deal. My C drive is 1.35 TB full. 560 GIG of that is in my documents folder. So tell me, what am I supposed to do with all that stuff?
But if my math is correct, you have another 575 GB of stuff on your C: drive.... Even that is what I'd consider a ridiculous (and clearly, unmanageable) size for any system partition, much less 1.35 TB! By dumping all apps and data alike onto your system drive, you have done yourself a huge disservice if for no other reason than you can't do a system backup image in a reasonable amount of time.
I would suggest sitting down and mapping out a plan to offload all of your data: You would keep your necessary application programs installed, but move all data files to a different partition or physical drive. As mentioned, some or all of that can be done through symbolic links.
The result will be so much more manageable, and with the ability to run regular backup images, it might be the most important upgrade you've ever done for your setup!
