Have you read my post at all? The one you replied to? I just want to use it for the way notes are input there, because having spent in trackers 6x the time Ive spent with piano rolls, I feel more comfortable with the former. Adding MIDI out (or pulling a MIDI clip out) wouldn't impact the way you can still use it.

When I started using trackers around '93 most of the effects that Renoise/Redux have were not there so I'm not sure our understanding of "what makes tracker a tracker" is the same :)

If my memory serves me well most of the tracker fxs are directly mappable to midi.

Volume and pan has midi CCs. Delay is doable in midi too, as MIDI has much more timing resolution than a tracker (on VST up to samples at the configured sample rate I think). Same for arpeggios (more midi notes), tremolo (volume), vibrato (pitch wheel), etc...

Sample start offsets, reverse (but not retrigger), etc. has no direct translation, but maping MIDI CC data to actual parameters is trivial on most DAWs, so even seemingly useless tracker specific fx could be exported on a MIDI CC to be optionally reused.

I'm still I'm not using Redux phrases that often, more like 25%, as I don't have the same muscle memory I had for Scream/Impulse tracker 25 years ago. I moved to DAWs around '00 with Cubase VST32 5 so all that is forgotten. I'm not that fast as I was with a tracker.

MIDI out from Redux would be nice, but my most wanted feature is velocity to sample start modulation. Very painful omission for a sampler.

finally a DAW that enables clip-launching(phrase launching in this case) from the main sequencer

requested from Bitwig team 5 years ago... would solve patterns and linked clips too, Renoise can launch multiple clips per instrument at the same time, nice

Renoise is an amazing tracker, unfortunately, it gets updated really slowly and updates are not as big as other daws. But at least, we still have an up to date tracker in 2021

Using vst’s in renoise is Ace!
Select some notes or tracks , render too selection , boom
Apply some effects commands etc..
Plugin grabber for your cpu intensive vst’s etc ( makes an instrument out of it )
Best piece of software ever , besides reaktor .
And most importantly , rock solid timing , controlling nord modular, yamaha tg77, integra .
Eyeball exchanging
Soul calibrating ..frequencies

Is Renoise mostly for chip music. I've seen some drum & bass songs... Would Renoise be any good for modern riddim / melodic dubstep, ya'll think?

It's great for anything.

For example there's a template for orchestral stuff on the top of page #3 of this thread.

Other than recording audio!

Consider it a sampler/sequencer in the Elektron/MPC style (as some suggested for FL) and you cant go wrong, if it was hardware everyone would want it ( Polyend Tracker eems to have cashed in on that!)

Its perfect for Dubstep, amazing sample manipulation (per slice/step) also take look at Redux, a plug in version of the sampler with tracker control for hardly any money!
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

^^^audio recording should be tried with Propellerhead Record https://www.kvraudio.com/product/record ... d-software :D as I see it works with ReWire (yepp I've got license for that)

I've checked quickly with Reason 10(ReWire)/Reason 11(Plugins) both ones are working nicely

I used to control and sequence reason ’s instruments directly from renoise , ommitting reasons’s sesuencer .
Al instruments had their own output bus in reason —>renoise ( you just insert a new rewire dsp and select a bus )
Each reasom instrument could be controllled by it’s own renoise midi cc device .
It’s a shame prop’s dropped rewire

it looks too adventurous to me :D

it has to be used with MIDI keyboard, during the recording it automagically creates new phrases(patterns) when you keep pauses on your playing then the recording can be cleaned with another extension after it can be sampled<>resampled/effected, triggered differently by parts/chopped whatever you want
>>
has a really creative workflow, excel sheet is in it mainly for tweaking/controlling the system not for composing :D check the video, the workflow of it simply can't be reproduced in DAWs
Workflow seems more complicated, slow and painful to learn from how I remember using Octamed back in the 1990's. There is a Scottish guy who does proper video tutorials on Renoise, who would provide a better narrated example of what's going on in how it's done.
If you could post a link to one of those tutorials, I'd really appreciate it. I have Renoise, but have no idea where to start with it.
IMO it's about Composing Gloves,
but I would start it from its own channel, at first with the Renoise 3 Beginner's Tutorial playlist then the rests
