“A Week of Days” is an instrumental prog rock song featuring guitar, fretless tapping bass, LinnStrument (viola, flute, lead synth), organ, piano, synth, and an Emerald Amicus 12-string guitar. I am working on lyrics and this may turn into a vocal song.

Nice and dreamy first part. 1:50 big change.
Some nice stuff in there. :tu:

Really like the Genesis vibe starting ~2:50 through the synth solo.

Definitely sounds like Genesis in places. Very well done and mixed.

jcub,
Thank you for your reviews! Now your song: this is really good! It starts out pretty relaxing. I contemplated buying also a fretless version of the Yamaha bass I own, years after I bought the fretted version. Much harder to play than a fretted bass, even with thin white stripes on the neck. Though, now that I own Melodyne Assistant (I've had it for years) it could have "cleaned up" any imprecise pitch control. Was that a real piano at the end? It sounded like it was, the way it sustained. I have never heard of tapping a fretless bass. I honestly think the song is very good without vocals. Though maybe vocals could fit in somehow. I also like the part of the song where it gets more energy (with B3? organ) and goes in a direction I did not anticipate. I like the Moog-ish lead synth. Nice job! :)

Thanks very much! The bass is a custom Dragonfly DF-6 six string fretless bass with flatwound strings. Dragonfly makes tapping electric and acoustic instruments - I think my fretless is the second fretless bass they have made. Here is a demo:

The piano is Pianoteq 7 from Modartt. It is a modeled piano and my favorite piano plugin.

jcub,
If I didn't know better, I would have thought you were playing a Stick in that video. You like unusual instruments for sure. :). I have used an older version (demo version) of Pianoteq in a song of mine before. I wrote the song so I wouldn't have to play the notes that did not work in the demo version. What a cheapskate! :)

The Dragonfly has similarities with the Stick but is a very different configuration. I love the sound of a fretless bass - I am still working on my intonation. Pianoteq is worth it - there is a less expensive player edition which would actually be enough for me. The pro version has very detailed customization features. The sound improves with each version and it is highly playable.

Nice sounds !
Some interesting ideas, not all compelling.
But I appreciate you play an instrument on that level.
Plugins will never get to that same level of realness and feeling.
