Whenever I draw in a drum pattern in the piano roll and play back the results, some of the drum hits I drew in don't get played back or get played back and a much lower velocity. Does anyone have any idea what's causing this or anything I can do to remedy it?

RNJ, I looked through the manuals and forums and the only thing slightly relevent I found to my situation would be that I'm using the M-Audio Audiophile USB.
Ahja, I'm using the piano roll to put in sequences and either using the A1 (native to SX) or my Roland V-Synth, but I get the same problem no matter what synth I'm using.

Have you tried updating your drivers? Or doing the old emulated ports trick?Internal Exodus wrote: Ahja, I'm using the piano roll to put in sequences and either using the A1 (native to SX) or my Roland V-Synth, but I get the same problem no matter what synth I'm using.
Just curious, how are you doing drums with Waldorf A1? Seems a bit odd.

It's not the drivers; I downloaded M-Audio's newest drivers for the Audiophile USB a long time ago. I'm trying to find more info on this "Emulated ports trick", but I'm not sure how this works since the only ports that show up in SX are: "Audiophile USB [Emulated]", MPU-401, and All MIDI Inputs.ahja wrote:Have you tried updating your drivers? Just found some percussion-type patches for it and been using those or ones I've come up with myself and use those the way you would any other synth.ahja wrote:Just curious, how are you doing drums with Waldorf A1? Seems a bit odd.

Emulated ports... Go into your Program Files > Steinberg > Cubase SX (2) > MIDI Port Enabler : folder. Take the ignoreport filter file out of the folder, and put it in your Cubase SX root folder.
Now... load up Cubase and go to your Devices menu / Device Setup. Go to all those midi sections and hide/disable your emulated ports. At this point, leave your REAL midi ports functional, and see if it works. Emulated ports can cause lots of trouble when it comes to timing. Disable MPU-401, you dont need that, unless you actually use it of course... That's your onboard midi, I think.
Also, in your "Direct music" tab, click "USE SYSTEM TIMESTAMP".
You said you got your drivers 'a long time ago'. Go see if they have something new out. They tend to update these things every few months till they are perfect.

MIDI Port Enabler folder was already in the SX root folder.ahja wrote:Emulated ports... Go into your Program Files > Steinberg > Cubase SX (2) > MIDI Port Enabler : folder. Take the ignoreport filter file out of the folder, and put it in your Cubase SX root folder.
Okay, but I didn't have any ports that weren't emulated. MPU-401 was already disabled, or so it said.ahja wrote:Now... load up Cubase and go to your Devices menu / Device Setup. Okay, went ahead and did that.ahja wrote:Also, in your "Direct music" tab, click "USE SYSTEM TIMESTAMP".
Checked again and no new drivers since I last checked.ahja wrote:You said you got your drivers 'a long time ago'. Go see if they have something new out. They tend to update these things every few months till they are perfect.
Thanks for your help so far btw!

Hmmm.. Interesting. You SHOULD have normal non-emulated ports. 'Tis a bit strange that they don't appear.
What SX version? 2.2.0.35, I hope?
ACPI or Standard PC?
NP about the help, I live for this sorta thing.

Using SX 2.2.0
And I don't really know what you mean by ACPI or Standard PC, but I'm assuming standard PC.
And yeah, I was always kind of confused that the ports showed up as Emulated instead of w/o it.

ACPI is default, Standard PC is ussually for people who like to specify their on IRQ slots. Hmm, I fear to say this, but on my old PC... I had to run in Standard PC to get solid midi timing. I really don't want to suggest this as there is no way to turn back without reisntalling your whole OS.
Update, and see if that helps any...

Looking at Steinbergs page, the only available update is for 2.2.33.
I hate to trouble you, but how would I go about seeing if I was on Standard PC or ACPI? Or, for that matter, if it wasn't Standard already, how to go about setting that? Also, what's the downside of Standard? Why can't one go back unless they reinstall their OS?

Okay, installed Cubase SX 2.2.whateverthefuck and it still shows up as 2.2, so I don't know if that has an impact on this or not. Just thought I'd let you know.

I'd hold off on resorting to the ACPI/Standard PC thing. Maybe someone else knows... Give it a day or so. Sorry I couldN'T fix the problem.Internal Exodus wrote:Looking at Steinbergs page, the only available update is for 2.2.33.

I'll check back at this thread tomorrow morning.
