And 1 page?

And get charged per month?

Limit the sample rates of MP3s?

And a chart where the scale means nothing about the quality – just how much you posted (hey I am nearly in the top ten – go and download me)?

And make the browsers of the index sign up, before they can listen to your music?

I can do that :D
I'm with you, I think webhosting is a better way to go in that it's all about you rather than the master site. But these OMD's are designed essentially to be clearing houses or even virtual music shops. This way people in the mood for one kind of music can just go browsing, whether are not they know the artist.

Ideally, a well-categorized music-only web index/portal would solve both problems. Develop a way to draw people's attention to various sites when looking for music. There are some things out there similar, but nothing really that's a portal llke Yahoo designed to work like Ampcast, with index, categories, charts, site news and artist profiles, etc.
Thats actually a good idea about the Portal - and one I will put serious attention to.

I may use one of my domains as a portal to the AudioShot and AudioShots sites as well as the presetbank ones. Plus the domain sites hosted - plus for the Labels and DJs.

Cheers! shamann :)

I tend not to sign up to those sites, not because I don't want spam, but rather I can't be bothered just to go check out one song. Soundclick doesn't seem to require log-in for the hi-fi stream, so that's alright for me. But acidplanet or sectionz et al, I just don't want to be bothered registering on a site I'm likely never to return to just to hear somebody's two-minute death-trance tribute to Wagner.

For a musician, I think those sites suck because they don't allow deep linking and restrict audio file type/file size. With Artistnow, once you pay, how many of those restriscitons are lifted? I'd guess that even though you pay monthly, listeners still have to access media links from the Artistnow page.

I'd think you'd be able to a good job of it, too. Look forward to seeing what you come up with.

OK why don't you guys get an account at WWW.DANCETECH.COM

You get free webspace (50mb) and the possibility to design your page after a default setting (you can import your own banner and artist/music image...the basic layout is the same for all tho')

And you get crossinked to 7161.com where's there is a chart and searchable genres etc etc

try it, it's very nice!

I think it will be a big project – plus an interesting one :) – and will provide extra coverage for the existing sites hosted – plus bring my site further into the minds of artists around the world.

Somehow I will need to marry audioshot to the portal, I think the safest bet is to keep audioshot as is, in its own right and develop the portal as a separate entity with a tight link to audioshot – so the two are associated together. Got me thinking cap on now :)

I can appreciate that Shamann. ;) I too might see someone who posted a song about 'vomit rock' that I think would be a hoot to check out. But it's at 'Rocco's House Of Music' or something - and it just sounds 'unsavory' to listen to 30sec of 'vomit rock' to come back and give the guy a  atleast.
SoundClick though has ALOT of KVR'ers there though.
That's how I learned about the site. ;) And a great site to upload and manage and all that. So definately I'd put SoundClick in the Top 5 of great unsigned internet sites. ;)

ArtistNow - talk about reading and filling out forms now... For what I can see, it's like a 'Tier 1a' for $10.95 blah-blah... Or the better is 'Tier 1b' for $19.95 blah-blah-blah. But if you want to put LOTS of music and pictures and stuff up - then consider 'Tier 2a' options for $24.95 a month... And so on! :bang:

I mean if you're going to be THAT proffesional - why wouldn't set up their OWN webite then? :? I'm sure it would have to be cheaper? But then again, personal websites don't attract hits without ALOT of promotion here and elsewhere. Whereas ArtistNow was generating a good few while I dicked around here and all.

6 of one, half dozen of the other I guess?

I think the broader your database the better, but you could set it up that all audioshot sites become immediately indexed, while sites from elsewhere would need to be manually indexed or something.

Update: the site's down. A HD crashed and the backup failed. A lesson to all of us? Theyr'e gonna rebuild the site from scratch and make it more "economical" - read: kick freeloaders like myself out?

Terratec sponsores or owns Besonic... they won't be pleased.
