Hi!

Since yesterday evening I started using Ableton Live 11 Beta. My first impressions are very positive: playing and recording the Linnstrument works really well and even editing played in MPE notes is super easy.

I 've been using Ableton since Live 9 and only switched to Logic about half a year ago because Live didn't support MPE.

In Ableton, one thing I still have to figure out now is how to use U-He Diva in MPE mode... Diva doesn't respond to messages sent over the Common Channel (I like to use "sustain" when using big chords). When I setup the Linnstrument to send these "common messages" over all channels, Diva keeps hanging until I switch it off and on again.
I hope U-He will implement full MPE support soon but I bought it knowing this wasn't implemented, so I can 't complain.

Any other Live 11 Beta testers here? What are your experiences using the Linnstrument with Live?

All the best,

Jef

Each time a new version is advertised I add myself to the beta list and have never been asked!

This was a first for me. I applied months ago and then a few weeks ago I got asked for the 10 Beta...

I always get the invite when it is actually released, never before.

They don't like me ;)

Jef my friend you must be very good luck as I just got the invite to Live 11 :)

Ha! Good for you!

I must say the more I make music in Live 11, the more I like it. Of course this is because I have the most muscle memory with Ableton, which was my main DAW until I got a Linnstrument half a year ago and switched to Logic.

One tip for MPE use: If you've loaded an MPE-capable plugin and notice it is not automatically recognized, you can enable MPE mode manually by right-clicking on the device header and selecting 'Enable MPE Mode' within the context menu.

I was luck enough to get in soon after launch and have also been really enjoying it. In fact I posted on a other thread I think this is the best release since V4!

I have been using my MPE controllers with it no problem (I have Sensel and Roli Seaward block)

I would recommend the Sensel for anyone looking for a cheap way in to MPE https://shop.sensel.com/pages/the-sensel-morph
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

Thanks!

This is what a got from U-He support:

"to my knowledge, the developers are going to be looking at expanding our MIDI capabilities
when "MIDI 2.0" is ready to go - to my knowledge, MPE would be a subset of that, but I
can't yet say how it's going to play out, how everything would work then.
Sorry, don't have any other news currently. :) "

Post

MPE is not part of MIDI 2.0. MIDI 2.0 has an entirely new message format, which does what MPE does but in a different way.

Post

But Midi 2.0 is backward compatible to Midi 1.0 including the MPE enhancements. That way its also part of Midi 2.0, but it will be way better anyway. I pray that Bitwig will be the first DAW which supports it...; - )
When Midi started 1984, we first had instruments and then sequencers. With Midi 2.0 I suspect it to be the other way around...

Post

But not forward compatible. So if u-he only implements MIDI 2, it's of no use for MPE devices.

Thanks for pitching in on U-HE/Diva and MPE/Midi2.0! maybe we should discuss this in a separate topic where all info on MPE and Midi 2.0 can be found back?

Anyway, the more I am using Live 11, the more I love it! Some minor bugs here and there (it is a Beta) but nothing that really slowed me down. It hasn 't even crashed once!

Was able to get into the beta last week.

Anyone else getting extremely high CPU spikes when using MPE Sounds?

It may be just time to upgrade my CPU. Currently running an i5 4950s
