What Did the "1" and "2" mean in the notation[Blue Marked]

The first time through the passage, play through 1. When you reach the repeat symbol (two dots next to a thin and thick vertical line at the back end of the bar) at the end of the passage, repeat the passage but play 2. These are basically just variations of a repeated passage.
