I kinda feel the same about trance, this is what has orginally drawn me into electronic music and synths but I can barely stand the post-2010 version of it.
2010? I'd go ten years earlier....

techno...

I really like some of the 90's techno/trance/goa.

But most of it sounds really dated to me. It does have certan nostalgic value for me but no more that that.

Spreaking of trance I think approx 2000 to 2008 were the golden ages for mainstream trance and for psytrance/progressive psy it was 2005-2016. But I guess this is something personal and has little to do with objective quailities of the music made in these periods

Dunno if it's subjective, but, I definitely agree. :) About mainstream Trance. I don't know anything about Psytrance.

At some point some psytrance (especially the progressive varieties of it) still had that "something" that had been gone in mainstream trance (that "something" which probably makes sense only to me)

Then I learned to apperciate psytrance for what it is but i still prefer the "lighter", more melodious and accessible forms of it (progressive or morning psy) - that's basically what I try to make myself.

Really? All of it? Every single piece? Have you really listened to all this new stuff?

I can agree that in the early days of trance, psy, techno etc there might have been less generic tracks because there was not much to copy. I can also appreciate that people may be attached to certain periods of certain genres and despise their latter development for subjective reasons (I'm pretty much like that myself as I said).

But broad statements like this don't make you look cool, they make you look close-minded.

Eat Static were really great tho. And still are

you can also do this stuff with it;

https://soundcloud.com/sada-exposada/de ... e-absolute

(the irritating drums are made with the Basimilus Iteritas. all other sounds zebra2, programmed from scratch, even the wave"forms".)

Mt guess would be Virus and or Nord Lead, that is pretty much the 2004 sound, with VB-1 for bass of course :)

We used to do the thing where you try to get a girls phone number on the napkin and the napkin is all drenched in sweat and beer at the end of the night and you can't read the number and you go.. "oh, no!!! fauk!!". I feel I am from a different planet.
Exact same here.
But it was DnB and Techno, and numbers written on rave flyers are for hotter girls who are on ecstasy.

KvR does not do well discussing electronic music.
telecode wrote: Wed Jan 13, 2021 5:57 pm I try to be open minded about music. But sorry, I just can't get into anything that has those drum machines in the songs any more.
But you play a guitar.
Like, I guess understand that you are not open minded about music, and are actually just shoving aside a huge vast ocean of it that is at least as varied and dynamic as all those songs you love that were made with the same instrument and the same chords.
I don't like any of it. It just sounds so dated to me. On the same par with Oasis, Smashmouth and Suede records.

BTW.. what does guitar have to do with this? No techno or trance musicians play guitar? I am sure some of them do.

I love Enya. I call her music, "womb music." It makes me feel secure, warm, slimy, and as if I still had me umbilical cord attached to mutter.
Doing nothing is only fun when you have something you are supposed to do.

i hate techno music fans just as much as I hate U2 fans.
