I would say for modern music production and the daw's the hit producers are using on the billboard chards(not video/film scoring)- FL Studio, Logic X, and Ableton. While mixing in Pro Tools.

No thread is complete without DAW and OS Wars plus information about how you can do everything in the world with Reaper using scripts

Yeah, that would be sweet - having those guys try Reaper. Or Renoise.

I actually think the vast majority of DAWS are becoming quite similar...one page (even Cubase is starting to loose all the pop up windows) with an editing panel (that often changes to a mixer or instrument view) and a main timeline overview panel, sidebars with more detailed information or file browser...that's pretty much the formula!

The key differences seem to be the drag and drop 'racks' (Live, Bitwig etc) and if you have a clip/non linear launcher/arranger (but this is now quite common)

FL is the only DAW that I have ever tried that just wasn't obvious and didn't click with me, all the rest I could just use without a great deal of effort.
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

Yeah. I found the video interesting because I own and use a lot of different DAWs so I'm used to adapting to different ways of working. I would personally never pigeonhole myself into just relying on one piece of software and not being able to move to something else if it does something I don't like. But some people want as little barrier to entry as possible to making music. All in all most DAWs (except maybe ones like FLStudio) are pretty similar.

'I'll be the judge of that.'

Soon it occurs to him that it's a fail.

Funny stuff.

What's the point of that challenge? What does it suppose to prove?

How about having five guys, each one speaking in a different language and make them order a specific meal in a language they don't speak? Does that say anything about the quality of their own language? NO

Pointless, just to stir up a useless arguments who's DAW is the best?

lol...

It's just a few guys having a bit of fun/frustration demonstrating their lack of familiarity of a particular DAW.

Lighten up Francis.

I've used FL for several years and even though I know that literally you can paint any pattern anywhere in the playlist I still use it as I would in any other DAW because... 'good housekeeping'. Otherwise, there would be so much confusion. I think in the latest versions you can 'lock content' to a particular track. It's nice to have the option to paint clips anywhere I guess but it's just not practical overall ( not for me anyway).

I like learning about other DAWs' features in threads like this. Long live the DAW wars!

This is a very important thread. I'm gonna read every single word and take it to heart.

pointless comparison

Post

I don't trust this kind of comparison.
it's like music magazine whose editor is payed for advertisers to promote there products.
Even bad products get a score of 8/10. so I stop purchasing this kind of mags.
Editors are paid for each product they talk about.
That's not an objective view but marketing strategy.
