Is Logic Pro a good idea considering Cubase 10.5 Pro runs on M1 big sur

We’ll, I decided to buy Logic Pro (educator bundle; I am a CUNY teacher)

It will arrive next week for some reason lol, idk why....

Anyway, are you guys saying there may be a method to enable the Audio AU by checking Rosetta Stone manually ?

Cubase 10.5 runs surprisingly well for me so far. Apparently the issue with v11 has to do with a change in how it renders the UI, which is why you get those strange purple windows. Hopefully they can at least patch it in the near term to play nicer with Rosetta as a stopgap solution until they can fully optimize it for M1. Unfortunately Steinberg tends to be glacially slow with things like this, so I'm not holding my breath. It shouldn't be *too* foreign to them though since they've been developing Cubasis on ARM since 2013. At least they already have some experience with Apple silicon.

I'd just wait on the previous version of macOS and not get an M1. Though, I wouldn't get a 1st gen M1 anyways. 16GB RAM isn't enough for what I do.

I agree with Tronam, it runs well...but I want native m1 code, it’s the snob in me. Plus after seeing the unified architecture , I’m pleased all I need is what I bought very little for

Speaking of which, my windows 10 Cubase machine runs 16gb (i7;2.5ghz) and my 8gb m1 runs almost twice, like 1.5x faster , so I’m fine with 8gb....you must be doing a lot of pro production with VST for that

But Even though Someone tried to scam me to get Cubase free a couple of days ago, I’m very happy I bought the Apple Educator Pro App bundle for the same price as Logic, and I had so,many gift cards that I paid half cash.....

So I’ll take $215 for Cubase 10.5 Pro with usb and metal add on license *(free shipping)

I’m not a huge fan of the way Logic operates, but it’s an incredible deal and the interface is cleaner than Cubase’s. On a side note, I ran Live on an M1 Mini and a LG 4K, 24-inch display at work. Very quick, very nice display.

Live has been snappy and stable for me too. The audio performance isn't that great though. I don't think Live's audio engine understands how to use the M1's CPU cores properly. Reason seems similar in that respect.

Logic is clean and intuitive beyond easy, but something is lacking and I can’t tell what it is

At the same time, I have the bundle with three editing programs and mainstage for live performance - mix that the app stores logic remote and you have a nice touch second screen

So while there is a learning curve for those coming from the best DAW I think logic pro will turn out to Be best ever for Mac m1: as you said, they are delightfully quick

I hope I can get used to logic - sort of hoping for the best

Well, the way the SOC swaps data around memory and storage as well as compression make the traditional amount of memory formula less applicable. However, I haven’t loaded up Kontakt with huge libraries to play back a score either. That will interesting. I too am skeptical about the amount of memory.

My main M1 hesitation though, is the lack of Boot Camp. I tried Windows 10 ARM via Parallels, and it was... err, okay. Live actually ran, though not very smoothly. I use Windows a lot for work.

With Qualcomm now in possession of Apple’s former CPU chief, the CPU situation is going to get even more interesting in the near future.

There is no best DAW... not overall and not on Mac.

No offense, but you are talking about it too much. You have purchased Logic... now focus and use it for 3 months before you rush to form opinions and labels which will just get in your own way of learning.

TEchnically speaking , Steinberg Cubase (Pro ) IS the definitive, best DAW for Windows 10 x64 bit - that’s not my opinion. That is the empirical evidence from 2020 data, and Steinberg programmers are known the be either the best, or leaving to make the next best (ableton live) and also bigwig....so no offense as I like your POV but when it comes to 64 bit intel i7 windows 10, Cubase is the absolute best value and choice , bar none...from processor usage, to memory resources, and then of course the actual DAW itself has every VST, Fx, and tool you need fro. A-Z complete audio production including mastering , and no other DAW can claim these things on the level of (again, specific platform ) win 10x64


Now, with that said, I am just garnering opinions from better, more advanced users, but your right, I had enough of the input and I bought Logic Pro , so that’s that
