Nice stuff guys. Here's a little WIP using my DX-11. Waves VEQ4 and VComp, Arturia EMT-140 and WatKat tape echo (all emulations of hardware)

Doctorbob, I dig it--love how the sounds come and go, all having a place, and sounding cool.
Doing nothing is only fun when you have something you are supposed to do.

Your sounds are on another level from mine. I imagine a lot of the music producers out there would want a piece of some of those sounds. Do you mostly do live pieces like that?

When I play live I'm mostly wild or meditative (never found much audience here in Italy). Thanks mate.

That's what i thought about his Monique.

I'm about to swap out the software reverbs now. Will record each midi track again, but now pass the Dx-11 signal through a hardware FX unit (reverbs) and record that as a new track, but fully WET. Then, I can mix in the reverb from the hardware with the original DRY signal (already recorded!), to create the reverb effect for each track.

** update ** All wet reverb tracks recorded using my Zoom Studio 1201 and Behringer Virtualizer Pro for various reverb types. Wet tracks mixed with the dry. Also changed the instruments ... hope you like the change. No VST except Waves VEQ4 (1081 emulation) on all tracks. Master "chain" is just VEQ4.

Enjoy a taster!

I decided on Dexed for my emulation, discovering the Vollenweider patch sealed the deal for me...

Dexed

Daw: Ableton 10 Suite

Stock Ableton Effects:
Reverb x 1
Convulution Reverb x 6
Limiter x 2
EQ8 x 4
Delay x 3
Autopan x 2
Utility x 1

3rd Party Plugins:

Youlean Loudness Meter Free

A delightful track with a really dreamy atmosphere! Each individual patch here sounds great individually, and each melody is self-sufficient! :violin:
Dexed has the ability to hook with one preset, that's for sure! This has happened to me many times. The beauty is that there are thousands of patches for it, made by real musicians on real DX7 for their music! :phones:
There's also a fun piece for instant inspiration:
"https://www.thisdx7cartdoesnotexist.com/" is a random bank generator for DX7. Usually, one contains across 3-7 interesting-sounding presets, which can still be refined and get something unique!
By the way, the same for Synth1:

*For those who haven't found their inspiration yet this month

Wow, not just random patch generators, but random bank generators! The sky is the limit!

I think I wrote " random bank generator" Yeah, it's really fun! 8)

Next update on my track progress ...

I have revised some of the reverbs (all with similar times, no matter what hardware is used!). I have routed the DX audio out to my Yamaha AW16G hard disk recorder and applied "input effects", in this case a nice reverb, and then routed back to the computer and recorded this as a new FX track for the particular instrument track in question. Following so far?

I now have what I think are the correct character reverbs for each track that needs it, using 4 different hardware FX units!

The next job is to now remove the VEQ4 VST's on all the tracks. I can route one track at a time to my mixer, EQ using the lo/mid sweep/hi section, and record that as the new EQ'd version. Given I have the VEQ4 settings already done for a mix, I can try to copy these setting on the mixer on a per track basis.

Then, phew, I will render this as a master track, and then, finally pass this on the the AW16G and apply the final mastering FX to this.

This way the whole track will be hardware based for everything. That is, no VST's, only ITB mixing.

Hope this makes sense. Luckily I can do all this without crawling around with cables etc, it can all be done via the mixer on my desk with careful pressing of the routing buttons!

DAW
Produced in FL Studio on live style, adding a new track in each recording, as if i was recording a real synth (without the sampling part). Old times Ambient/Downtempo genre with some few extra ideas. And some extra arrangements.

Synth
  • 19 instances of SQ8L (beautiful warm sound, but a pain to program :hihi: )
Effects
  • ArcDev ET-301 without the modulation part.
Still available at Rekkerd and some others sites) which is modelled on the Boss DM-100 Delay Machine.
  • Tal-Reverb 3; classic plate reverb, no more, no less.
  • Sonic Anomaly Transpire (Free transient designer, website down, but you can download it from other many places)
FL Effects
  • FL Limiter
  • FL PEQ2
  • FL Patcher (FL Mid/Side Splitter + PEQ2 for mastering purposes)
  • FL Fruity Peak Controller.
I didn't want to break dynamics, as i wanted this track sounds the most natural and expressive possible, so i didn't use compressors at all, just the transient designer for the percussion.
I hope it sounds big enough.

The idea under this project is due difficult times, i'm missing my korean girl, we can't be together and everything is closed, so we can't be together right now, almost 2 years bearing... so here is the feeling as a pleading to Universe. I hope universe listens to me again as it did 6 years ago*.
After all, we are all creators of reality.
Dedicated to my lovely future wife, Jiyoung.
*(reference: soundcloud.com/irion-da-ronin/universe-is-listening).

I hope you all find it pleasant to your ears.
Picture made and edited by me.

Thanks for listening, it's nice to come back, and have a good day everyone :)
Beautiful piece of music

cables! I hear you, making my track this month I traveled back in time to the old fights with cables and their knots.

Can't wait to listen to what you've done with the DX11 beast.

Post

Yeah, I didn't dare look in the boxes of cables! Luckily I have been reasonably sensible and have a 16:4:2 mixer, 6 aux sends and 10 other inputs. Most kit is connected with small snakes, and things did go where I expected them, after not doing any fancy routing for some years! I sped up the process by using stereo out of the computer, and panning 2 tracks fully L and R. Then these 2 go to separate channels in the mixer, again these are panned fully L o R so the computer sees 2 inputs which are now not stereo (in a sense) and then I record 2 MONO tracks one from L and the other from R. Each input to the mixer is then EQ'd for each track appropriately. Of course, each track could also send to various FX units as well if wanted to and could be mixed back into the L and R busses accordingly! ie, making sure the right track gets the right fx return! Oh the fun of only having a 2 in/out interface.

But, I am getting there ... Just the 17 percussion tracks/elements to EQ now! Then, I'll route to a pre-master and EQ and Comp/limit that before rendering!

I thought I had finished , but I decided to throw some more effects at it and get a bigger mix, not sure it’s helped ;)
