Did you actually see what all the various scripts are out there and what they do? It's far from limited. It may not do EVERYTHING imaginable, but it certainly goes far and above any scripting capability of any other DAW.

That said, the whole MIDI editor in Reaper is coded as a C++ extension (like SWS), so you can always go this route... :P

???

There's exactly a color mode to colorize by pitches? Or did you mean something else?

That's what everybody tells you, but it isn't true (it's the same as with Waveform or Cakewalk), as I now have realized.
Waveform (you know that JUCE is the open sourced code Tracktion used for the DAW) lacks users and better documentation, Cakewalks CAL is LISP and deprecated and poorly documentated. So, yes, Reaper still wins.

As I said, if it were OS, I'd actually already loaded up the MIDI editor's sources out of frustration. But it isn't big enough to code the editor from scratch ;)
Or at least added a working RR.

I don't want to color the notes, but the background rows of the MIDI editor. Not possible, you can only colorize the piano's keys (that's what Reaper already does per default, now I also know why ;).
The workaraound in user scripts is displaying a midi file in an added special track with long notes at the scale positions.
Like that:

I want (that's Cakewalk, Live added that with 11):

I get (that's Reaper):
reaper_midi_editor_scale.png

How is it "the same"? Scripting in Reaper is far and above of what's offered in WF or CW.

Can you do something like radial menu in WF or CW? I bet you can't. :D

Also, thanks for clarification on the coloring thing. That does make sense! Should open a FR thread. :)

Yes, that's actually true when talking about the capabilities of the macros, but they all rest 'better' macros, you can't change the program itself or the internal data representation, you always rest at the surface.
With 3D programs way more is possible - and I'm talking about closed source like Maya and Houdini and Softimage (F=$"%§ you both, Avid and Autodesk!), not Blender.

And now Reaper (and no, I'm not talking about the number of library functions ;):

Edit: I forgot about Ardour/Mixbus. Also has Lua scripting.

Wait, scripting is not the same thing as macros (I guess with "macros" you mean custom actions in Reaper lingo). Let's not confuse things here.

Check out for example what this guy did. A whole new mixer, track inspector, this is not just simple macros.

Yes I know, what I wanted to express is that Reaper's interface to the scripting language is too limited. I just needed to vent my frustration.
But never mind, sun and bright sky since 3 hours ago

Yes, and if Reaper had a deeper interface he could have just changed and extended the existing mixer and track inspector instead of reprogramming them. That's exactly what I'm talking about.
Some small changes need either ugly hacks or a reprogramming of the whole thing, but no matter what, way more effort than it should be.
Like the scale coloring or retrospective record or a special lane for articulation management.

Well, you can easily ease the CPU burden by going to Audio and working with that. That's what a lot of producers using DAW like Pro Tools and Samplitude do. Their music sounds just as good, but they aren't burning half their CPU on Synth instances all the time :-P

Workflow can alleviate this to a great degree.

Frankly, I'd probably adopt such a workflow if I were using REAPER, Lol.

"Notifications for Nothing" are annoying. Blocking me in return is a good way to avoid this.
