Do some plugin companies delete inactive accounts?

So I've recently returned to music production after several years inactivity, and I'm slowly working my way through my old plugin list to install on my new laptop. However, I don't have the installers for some of them, and my login information doesn't work when I try to retrieve them from their websites, and my email address isn't recognised when I request a password reset. I've tried searching through my old emails but can't find anything, but I have found some old private messages on here from around 2013-2015 when I bought the plugins from members of this forum.

So what to do in this situation? As if I contact these companies, I don't have any proof that I actually bought these plugins apart from some old private messages from years ago. :?

Are you sure you are using the correct e-mail address to do the pass word reset? Maybe e-mailing them your address so they can search their database would be helpful.

Doubt it. Why would they? And, how would they distinguish between active and inactive accounts? It's not like you log in the whole time.

You could always just count yer losses and buy again what you think is essential.
Good opportunity to reduce your plugin collection and limit your choices ;-)

what companies relied on PMs as communication with their customers versus proper email?

It depends from company to company. I've experienced it several times that a company moved on from their existing user account system to a new user account system, and asked their users to actively sign up for the new system in order to 'keep' their purchases, or sometimes not even that. Just recently I received an email like that from Ohmforce, and I see SSL started a new system for users of their new interfaces that runs in parallel to their previous system, probably a matter of time before they switch or port everything. So it's absolutely possible that some developers did that, and since you weren't involved, you never created an account for the new system. So your purchases may well still be present in their databases, associated with your e-mail address, but you just don't have access to their login system anymore. I'd recommend to just write to their support teams, tell them you can't log in, and ask if anything's changed while you weren't around.

Ok I got this sorted by contacting the companies, they either just sent me the installers and registration codes, or gave me new login information.....guess they still had me in their database.

I am in a similar position after just returning back to making music after a long while.

I have found lots of companies have been great if you contact customer support and provide them with details such as the email you used in your account. They then look up the details and let you know.

Time consuming but 100% success so far.

Not quite the same as the original question though. The original poster didn't forget his login credentials. The companies also didn't delete your accounts. You just forgot the logins, and now you have to ask them one by one what your login details are.

Which can be easily avoided, BTW, by using a password manager, or writing down your login credentials.
