Is the Korg Minilogue the cheapest analogue poly you can buy?

Post

Could be a tough call between that and Behringer DeepMind 6.
DeepMind is incredible well thought out synth with a lot of headroom, and 6 voices compared to 4.
1024 memory locations compared to MiniLogue 100 I think it was.
DeepMind also has full size keys and aftertouch, which MiniLogue does not have either one.

Here a comparison with Prophet 6

DeepMind have a little unusuall oscillator waveforms approach but covers a lot of ground.
MiniLogue is more what you expect.
MiniLogue XD also has a user oscillator meaning 3rd party digital oscillators that extend a lot, and vpm oscillators built in. It cost very little more than standard MiniLogue.

I have both DeepMind 6 and Prologue 8 - and would not leave out either.
It's something special about the sound of Prologue VCO's which is big brother to MiniLogue which only are 4 voices but same electronics. But doing oscillator drift as you see with DeepMind it compares nicely with Prophet vintage knob and sounds really good.

DeepMind 6 is really packed with electronics, it weighs double to MiniLogue.

I bought the Minilogue XD, then returned it. I couldn't stand the tiny keys

avoid disappointment, find a synth you like the sound of and save the cash!

Analog? Probably. Some pretty good Virtual Analog out there for not too bad. The Modal Cobalt sounds really nice to me. Mini on sat... KingKORG. Oh, you could probably find a Elektron Analog Four Mk1 for a pretty low price, I love mine... I think I paid around $400 for it.

Personally I think the minilogue is great. Sounds really good and his it’s own unique character.

Deepmind definitely be another option around there.

I don’t think you’d be disappointed in either. Although I would say it’s a taste thing, if you prefer mojo and just twisting knobs, go with the minilogue, if you prefer to have more control and tweak, go with the Behringer. It has a more refined but slightly more boring sound but loads more modulation possibilities.

Don't take a Minilogue,they sound cheap.I have a Minilogue XD that I never use.It is stored on a shelf,unplugged.I don't like the sound.

Actually If I had to buy one new cheap analog poly I would choose the Deepmind. This one has more polyphony and a decent keyboard. It hasn't a ringmod or hardsync, crossmod though. But they are not the most important features for a poly IMHO.

I’m thinking 4 voices is too low. Might wait for the Behringer P800 to launch.

I’m looking for a small module ideally.

I will get that when it arrives too, but don't think it will be this year, possibly end of year.

I put a question at the horses mouth a week or so ago, MusicTribe forum, and they had nothing indicated.
- waiting for a good thing, we just have to be patient
- and meant that Facebook was the first place to hear about it, for some reason not their own forum.

MonoPoly was announced in may, production started october and was meant for shipping end of year or Q1 this year, and 2600 too as I recall.

Crave was similar as i recall, 6-9 month after announced in production.

So Pro 800 is nowhere close IMO. They could indicate something, but chose not to.
Even delivery of DeepMind 6 as I looked on Bax Music was march or similar. Everything is delayed these days.

But we can enjoy some Prophet 600 until then

In this video, they say "within the next few months":

The DeepMind is another great option, even though it's a bit idiosyncratic. I'd recommend the 12D over the 6 unless you absolutely need another set of keys. Many patches use 2X Unison in order to achieve two sawtooth waves, due to the limitations mentioned above. This cuts polyphony in half, which still leaves 6 voices on 12/12D.
Take a single oscillator, producing a drone. Send it to the wave shaper, altering the tone.
This can be a triangle, Sawtooth or a square. Modulate the pulse width, nobody will care

I heard a couple of sound demos, also of the Monologue. It never convinced me. I love some analog synths' sound, but, the Korgs are definitely not my cup of tea. Quite uninspiring sound for me.

Thank you, that would be a treat. I always wanted to be wrong in my estimate. ;)

Dated today, nice....

Yeah, uninspiring, bland, colourless,no mids.It sounds like the electronics inside are very cheap quality. You can do a few interesting sounds with it but anyways after a few weeks I have been bored of it.
I have never played with a Prologue but I feel like its audio path has been improved in comparison to the Minilogue XD,in the Youtube videos. It seems to sound 'better','stronger'.But I am not sure, really.I don't know if the peeps abuse of the bass compressor or do some audio processing later.

Anyways lesson learned. It is better to save some money a few months and then buy a quality instrument, not a toy.
