Could be lo'ts of things , but phase modulation will still be phase modulation
Varible waveforms , wavetables perhaps , filters in between operators , partials , waveshaping , ring mod ..etc..
Korg op6 is a good example of next level fm

I'll be happy if it did a proper SY99 with some modern twist. It's understandable that this kind of synth might need a modern sheen to compete with others, but please in the Big - Thick - Full and Lively hardware sounding glory of the past, not another Thin - Sharp - Cold Dead plugin sounding digital wannabe.Dirtgrain wrote: Sat Jan 23, 2021 8:44 pm Assuming f.'em does something new with FM, what might that be? The most reliefing to spell, especially in this shitty condition. But I'm so afraid that certain folks will have some seriously big problems with the too "SLUTTY" nameEvilDragon wrote: f.'em is still the best plugin name ever.

My eyes are locked on this plugin. I love FM8, and hope NI does something with it (i doubt it). F'em really looks sick.

teeny bit more info here

As for hyperion, the developer has had kvr threads and youtube videos for a long time...I never understood why it was ignored since so many seem to be into modular as well as the workstation renaissance

Maybe because Hyperion came from an unknown developer. I can't imagine if something like that came from Waldorf.

MPE-enabled FM8 with extra modulation capabilities and an extra filter is still pretty cool in my book. Any other features that can't be gleaned from the video are just icing on the cake.Tj Shredder wrote: Sun Jan 24, 2021 7:46 amIt looks like a colored FM8...pinbot wrote: Sat Jan 23, 2021 8:44 pm Guys, I hate to admit it, but F'em looks like an effing awesome synthesizer!!!!!!!!

Since Image-Line has stopped selling (and likely updating) their VST's, this is looking like a good replacement for Sytrus for me once it releases. The Sytrus VST had a couple inconveniences that turned me off from using it.
But this is looking really promising!

First 18 minutes of the stream are about F'em.
Hyperion starts at 48 minutes.
Both out in about a month.

It looks like it may be capable of being a good virtual substitute for the the SY77/99. In the video posted below, Wolfram does mention that the sample operators can play multisamples, and the instrument has four layers; he didn't say anything about the single-cycle waveforms used by the eight traditional operators, so that might be one area that it can't cover. It seems that a lot of FM softsynths include the eight waveforms from the TX81Z, but not the additional eight from the SY77. Hopefully we'll soon have a demo and manual we can check out for ourselves.crystalmsc wrote: Sun Jan 24, 2021 1:50 amI'll be happy if it did a proper SY99 with some modern twist.
