I am wondering what is the percentage of nonlinear users compared to timeline users for production only.

I use clips on a timeline. And I'd say for mixed workflow Bitwig beats Live hands down, so that's how I voted...

But, I don't have a 'studio' so what do I know?

Just for any production actually, not necessarily pro studio. Just wanted to take out live performance out of the equation. I should edit it

I'd guess people with clip launcher DAWS use a combination of both, start the process in Session View, build the composition blocks there, play with the arrangement, print it to arrangement view and finish up there with automation, fades etc. That's how I use it anyway, and really love the workflow.

I am also a staunch advocate of the hybrid approach. It helps me develop musical ideas quickly and in a playful way. It took away a mental barrier I used to have often when starting a new track. You can really jam your way into a track. And the number of happy accidents a la "Oh, wow, that sounds interesting & unexpected. I'll keep that." is much higher for me - something I'm always on the lookout for..jon wrote: Sun Jan 24, 2021 11:03 am I'd guess people with clip launcher DAWS use a combination of both, start the process in Session View, build the composition blocks there, play with the arrangement, print it to arrangement view and finish up there with automation, fades etc. That's how I use it anyway, and really love the workflow.

Most of the time when I'm working in Bitwig I'm using the timeline and just use the clip view a place to store clips to drag back in when needed. So I make something in the time line, drag it into the clip view for use later. I don't do that as much in Live due to not having easy access to clip view when the arranger is open.
I've been changing that lately due to using Akai Force. I still like the freedom of using a timeline though but I'm coming around on clips.
