xalama qo - glad to be back, please let me know how it goes! Glad you like Anacreon - it's almost there, just a few more features, a few UI alterations, and then its all about porting to other platforms.

Post

Glad you're back Erich! Watch that cognitive fatigue. The fact that you sorted out a showstopper issue in 2 hours which had previously stumped you for some weeks is a sure sign of needing to pace yourself. I know it's really hard to pace a passion!
Take plenty of breaks, and trust your subconscious to figure stuff out while your mind is elsewhere.
I have chronic fatigue syndrome/ME, and there are many things I don't cope with just because I don't have the stamina to keep physically or mentally processing stuff. It's ridiculously debilitating, and frustrating when your personal ethos is about reliability and non-flakeyness. It's also impossible to imagine if you haven't experienced it, how doing some intense thinking one day can leave you physically wiped out for days afterwards.
So, you might not hear back from me very quickly, but as I said, as soon as possible. I'm not sure that checking Studio One v2 should be a high priority for you, but if you manage to that would be great. Cakewalk is free now (owned by Bandlab), so checking compatibility there should be easier for you, and probably higher priority just because of the potentially huge amateur user base Cakewalk has.
Good luck, and happy bug hunting :tu:

xalama qo - chronic fatigue syndrome sounds like quite the beast to contend with! I'll bet you're an expert in energy management... like playing chess and thinking multiple moves ahead or something along those lines?

I'm downloading Cakewalk now, thanks for the link. It's funny - my very first DAW was a bootleg copy of Cakewalk music creator given to me by my uncle and I haven't so much as looked the DAW in nearly 2 decades, this will be a trip!

Post

No worky with Cakewalk - it fails on scan. I can't attach a debugger for some reason, which is annoying. I have emailed them and will see what they say!

Anacreon 2.5.3.3 is making noises in StudioOne 2.6.5 for me

(some Anacreon 2.5.3.2 presets no longer work, but I'm not expecting consistent presets until 2.5.4)

My first DAW was Cakewalk from back in the early 90s. I'm guessing it's quite different now.
Surely there must be consensus by now...

Post

@pough - good news on StudioOne 2.6.5! There will be some breakage on presets for a while. My guess is exposing all the routing parameters caused it this time. New Cakewalk is unrecognizable and really odd.. feels a bit like reaper almost?

Post

@xalama qo - just realized that your Cakewalk link was autogenerated by the forum, fancy that!

Post

I'm also noticing auto-links all over the place here. It's a pleasure anyway :p
I started with Cakewalk in '95, back when it was just midi and no audio. I'm ancient. I'm so glad Bandlab have taken over the development, and set it free, would've been tragic if it had been deserted. In my experience Bandlab support has been very good. I hope they can help you get Anacreon scanning successfully.
A lot of my problem-solving thinking goes into hacking my creativity. There's no time or energy to waste, so I've had to figure out what makes me tick and how to jump start fresh ideas. Fatigue is a mood killer, and anhedonia and music making are worst enemies...so getting into that space where I feel something, have that creative response, is quite a massive hurdle. But I'm getting better at it. Feels horribly mercenary at first, kinda like paint by numbers, but once the creative spark ignites you feel like colouring outside the lines again. I also make a concerted effort to keep things simple and not be too hard on myself :D
Awesome that pough has noises in S1v2! I'll report back when I get a chance to test here. :tu:

It refuses description, allowing only the vague approach of adjectives: dark, light, raw, angelic. Who or what is making these noises? Where are they coming from and what do they point to? What kind of entity can leave such a troubling sonic remnant?

I heard back from the folks at BandLab - gave me some ideas on how to get the debugger attached and I'm looking forward to trying it out.

They also offered to help by sending me a custom build of the VSTScanner.exe process that was more debuggable but I don't know if I need it yet.

Just wanted to keep everyone updated / not make you think I walked away again. Slow and steady is my new pace, should help me avoid burnout I think.

@xalama qo - fatigue sucks! My job as a salesperson can be a battle at times. Lots of emotional investment in customers / manufacturers is required. I've been trying to actively strategize as well - thanks for sharing your knowledge, it helps!

@resistent - if you had issues downloading your copy of the new version, it should be working now. I noticed that there was a bug in my website's serverside code and fixed it sometime last week.

Post

Hey Erich, sorry I've been away for a while. Glad you're making progress with fatigue strategy. Feel free to PM me here anytime for diet/supplements which I've found helpful. Happy to help anyone who suffers from this hectic condition!
I finally got some time/energy to try Anacreon today, but couldn't download a demo file anywhere. KVR download link seems dead. Maybe just me? Would be great if you could check that out when you have the headspace and bandwidth. Tx!

fixing it on product page now - thanks for heads up!

Hey Erich, no problem :tu:
I was listening to the audio demos again and they're really inspiring! Was thinking that if you'd be willing to release the project files they would serve as great tutorials for reverse engineering the sounds in them etc. Just an idea, no pressure.
Absolutely loving the Anacreon sound. I think you've nailed all my favourite 90s VA hardware sounds. Virus-like rubbery bass, AN1x phat superwaves/unison, Nord Modular ARP2600-ness. It's all in there with wonderful attitude. I love how you can just listen to this synth raw without any effects and it keeps your attention, doesn't need any help.
Superb stuff. Keep plodding, slow and steady :tu:

That download link works
