Reason+ = subscription model (20€ month)

So basically - for current Reason users - it breaks even (economically) if one always upgrades Reason (say EUR130 every 2 years) and buys at least 3 of their REs in 2 years (avg. price EUR69-129 a piece), so that the total money spent is > EUR400 / 2 years. Plus one gets those sound packs for "free" and the REs they don't have yet.
The big questions therefore is what's gonna be in those Reason upgrades and what REs will be released in the future?

The problem with all these subscription models is that it encourages a quantity over quality mindset. You have to keep pumping out new stuff to justify the ongoing cost and that incentivises throwaway content. Just like Netflix is cranking out mediocre shows left & right and Spotify is overrun with 30 second earworms.

And it usually ends up being EDM toys which don't help the performing musician or mix engineer.kuniklo wrote: Wed Jan 27, 2021 1:02 pm The problem with all these subscription models is that it encourages a quantity over quality mindset. Not to mention pissed of RE developers which by reading shitstorm at reasontalk - didn't know anything about it until today.
As I understand it they don't have problem with subscription service. The are VERY pissed off that all of their products have now been hidden in such a way that new users wont see any third party RE's or ReFills.
Hahaha I can see U-he and other wise enough guys laughing. They jumped out of RE and their shop even before VST was introduced so I guess they realized what a mess RE and everything inside PH has become.

I know. It's just about getting money out of people by enticing them with sounds so they'll subscribe.kmonkey wrote: Wed Jan 27, 2021 10:43 am This is not aimed at dogzilla, but seriously who need weekly soundpacks? For crying out loud, real talents literally defined genres with one 16mb drum machine and two three synths + one reverb. These clowns think that people need "packs" each week. Like everyone is hosting personal could systems pr 8TB drives.
This is getting ridiculous.
I was laughing at people when they said Propellerheads lost their plot. I am not laughing anymore.

The topic on reasontalk has already gone unless it has been moved somewhere else. I for one won't touch this subscription model (and I am a Bitwig user!) and have been using Reason since V1 and I have to say I now think I am done. I hardly use the DAW these days and use the plug in less and less these days. It is such a shame as propellerhead was such a modern and forward looking company - in 1999. They have really struggled to find a place compared to modern platforms and companies unfortunately.

Yeah I make old skool house music and this genre has specific sounds that are needed for that genre. A lot of these sounds / patches I hear these days sound like they only appeal to the young dubstep / drum 'n' bass producers or such like.dogzilla wrote: Wed Jan 27, 2021 11:02 amWell I don't need them. Giving your subscribers the same sounds on a weekly basis? What if those sounds don't suit the genres people work in? I know every DAW user shares a common core library of sounds with their fellow DAW users, but at least there's a choice to dip in and out of that library when you want, and that it's not costing you anything more for that choice.

You can still upgrade. They stated on Reasontalk that it's not subscription ONLY, it's as well as so either or.cursor wrote: Wed Jan 27, 2021 12:55 pm Oh dear, I've been upgrading Reason every year since version 4 and it looks like it could be my last. I'm not going to subscribe.

How so? 3rd party REs were never advertised on the main site and you had to go to the shop to see them. Nothing changed in this regard, other than the "shop" isn't listed on the top of the site, but at the very bottom - is that it?kmonkey wrote: Wed Jan 27, 2021 1:18 pm...The are VERY pissed off that all of their products have now been hidden in such a way that new users wont see any third party RE's or ReFills.

Done with Propellerhead.
Hopefully I can access the suite 11 software I paid for after you go bankrupt.

Definitely they should not longer use the word “Reason” since they have lost it for good this time.
Oh well... last time I used it (Europa VST has issues with the fonts and no fix of course) it’s going to be... last.

Yes, that is the problem. That Reason doesn't want to sell anything through it's shop anymore, but want you to subscribe. There are 5 links to the subscription in the text on the site and not a single one to the shop, only the ones in the sitemap at the bottom.antic604 wrote: Wed Jan 27, 2021 1:58 pmHow so? 3rd party REs were never advertised on the main site and you had to go to the shop to see them.
