i still think you guys are full of it about the minilogue sounding bad lol, but to each his own I suppose.
I guess it depends what you like.

Maybe people are just expecting too much from "analog". Most analog style sounds are some variation of a sawtooth wave through a low-pass filter, it's not going to sound *that* different from one synth to the next. Also most polysynths are gain-staged internally for a rather clean sound without a lot of overtones. Tons of overtones, feedback and distortion work great in a monosynth when you're playing a powerful solo, but would sound very muddy and unusable when you're holding down 3,4, 5+ notes at a time.
Take a single oscillator, producing a drone. Send it to the wave shaper, altering the tone.
This can be a triangle, Sawtooth or a square. Modulate the pulse width, nobody will care

but not actually analogue.
An idiot on Set Theory:
"In some cases there is an object called red that contains everything that is red. In much the same way a pot is a plate."

For what is worth, I haver a DM12 and a Prophet 08 and an A4 which are all analogue (of the 3 I would recommend the 08 desktop) but definitely take a look at the Hydrasynth (they also do a module) as that is my faveroute of all of them at the moment and its digital!
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

I liked the sound of the Minilogue XD... I hated the mini keys and returned it for that reason.stillshaded wrote: Sun Jan 24, 2021 7:35 pm i still think you guys are full of it about the minilogue sounding bad lol, but to each his own I suppose.

The Elektron Analog Four is a fantastic machine... so versatile and capable. If you get a used MK1 it must be pretty cheap these days.
The A4 makes some gorgeous sounds... some of my favorite leads from any synth. It can be 4 mono synths (with the amazing sequencer) and also can be 4 voice Poly. More modulation options than most analogs out there.

I would do that, actually. Seems to be the best bang, and best sound you can get for the buck.SHall1000 wrote: Sun Jan 24, 2021 9:42 am I’m thinking 4 voices is too low. Might wait for the Behringer P800 to launch.
8 voices for me is kind of the sweet spot. I wouldn't want less than that (or an inexpensive monophonic synth). Been playing with NI's Super 8 a bit the last days. If I don't activate unison, I can definitely do a lot with it (and it sounds super nice).

The Minilogue is quite nice watch the Sonic State reviews for both versions. But they're definitely not very characterful synths. Not in the same league as DSI/Sequential. But I'd rate them above DM12 in sound quality which I find too reliant on effects to get a good sound out of.

For MiniLogue XD having the digital multi engine as well, there are certainly ways to get more agressive if the 2 VCO's does not take you there.
MultiEngine I believe is same as in my ProLogue 8 on MiniLogue XD.
I have bought 5 oscillators and loaded the rest up to 16 of the free ones here
https://github.com/peterall/eurorack-prologue
User oscillators can have many oscillator waveforms to combine in various ways, detune, distortion etc.
One Prophet VS style, select 4 of 16 waveforms in various octaves etc that you can modulate going around a bit like new Korg ModWave Kaoss thingy(not as extensive of course).
All kinds with wavetable stuff as well, some with internal LFO to modulate and other things like envelopes internally as well as modulating from synth LFO. Really interesting move by Korg. Multiengine can also run past filter if you want - pre/post.
There is also room for 16 user effects, which I did not bother with so much. Just want core sounds from synths more or less. Assume there is plenty to get for that too.
Places I bought user oscillators

https://www.dirtboxsynth.com/korg-prolo ... cillators/
Sound Mangling, Tim Shoebridge stuff, has plenty good 30 minute demos that show his oscillators. You can probably hear what it may offer.
These things are just not shown that deep in various reviews of MiniLogue so thought I'd share it.
