I recently got an old Juno 106, but I need new voice chips - and my old Wavestation needs a new power supply.
So I remain firmly in the box, choosing an old favourite: DEXED, along with some hardware-based effects. There are commercial alternatives, but Dexed remain my favourite source for computer-DX7. I reeeally like a bit of chorus on my DX7, though, so this was a bit of a challenge! A peculiar mix of styles, and a bit of a quickie, but heere's
https://soundcloud.com/terjefjelde/dubby-mcwannafly
Synth/DAW:
Presonus Studio One Professional 5.1
Dexed, based on the Yamaha DX7: c. 40 instances, some classic presets, some my own.
Hardware-based FX:
Reverb: Eventide SP2016, based on the 1982 hardware unit.
Delay: Audio Thing Outer Space, based on Roland RE-201 Space Echo (1974-90).
Dynamics: Cakewalk CA-2A, based on the Teletronix LA-2A (1960s) - primarily on drums, bass and percussion.
Console: Sonimus Britson channel and bus strips - emulates the sound of an old Neve console (1970s).
EQ: Lindell PEX-500, Pultec-style based on the 2013 (?) module - for bass and kick.
EQ: And finally, I guess: Sonimus SonEQ free version - based on "some vintage gear and combines them into one."
Other FX:
ProEQ, Mixtool, IVGI, DD AutoPan, DD Reverb, StereoToolV3, TDRVOSSlickEQ, Unlimited

Hi,
here´s my submission for this month.
First when i saw "Any Hardware" i was already preparing myself to finally start switching on my Yamaha MX49 for the first time. But i was not sure if its AWM2 engine fits the requirements.
Luckily many posts here pointed towards the Dexed-emulation of the Yamaha DX7, so i gave it a try.
Here´s the result.
Dexed x 22
Daw: Cubase Elements 11
Stock Cubase Effects:
Reverb, PingPong Delay, Compressor, Tube Compressor, Stereo Enhancer, Brickwall Limiter
3rd Party Plugins:
BlueArp, Youlean Loudness Meter Free, SPAN, MSED, Nova, Kotelnikov

I think the software emulations have to be of a real hardware synthesizer. If you have software which emulates a number of real synths (ie packaging them all together), you would have to be able to "isolate" the part of the emulation for one particular synth, and use just that.

Sounds good here. Don't forget to note what DAW you're using, the synth, how many instances, and whatever effects you used.PleaseAdvise wrote: Sat Jan 30, 2021 7:00 am Not much time to finish correctly and sounds terrible on the last 2 devices I gave it a quick listen to but... Hi all,
I have chosen the TAL U-No-LX, an emulation of the Roland Juno106. Quite limited synth, but great basic sound. In addition I took Outerspace, an emulation of the Roland Space Echo, but without any tape modulations, to avoid chorus like effects.
This time my aim was not to make a great composition. I focused to the sound design, make it groovy and a bit old fashioned. Playing with that, I made a nice sound by chance, which sounds a bit like a reversed audio. Very simple, slow attack followed by a very short decay - that's all. I liked this impression and used it as one of the main sounds.

Done in Reaper v5.99.
30 instances of TAL U-No-LX used.
Dynamic: TLs-1295-LEA, TDR Kotelnikov, Transpire, Maxwell Smart
Filter: ReaEQ, MQ 57
Satturation: Thrillseeker XTC, Green Eugen, QX24
Delay: NastyDLA, ReaDelay
Stereo: DD AutoPan, MidSideMangle, GStereo
Reverb: Dragonfly, Valhalla Supermassive, TAL III, Outerspace
Analyser: SPAN, Youlean Loudnessmeter
Hardware Emulations:
TAL U-NoLX - Roland Juno 106
Outerspace - Roland Space Echo, No Tape Modulation used
