Cherry Audio Voltage modular

I also noticed that a lot of modules appeared. But many of them duplicate standard modules, and it is already difficult to find something original and necessary. ngzrgr litters the store with copies of modules, and I don't understand where Cherry Audio is looking. The store is flooding with loads of unnecessary junk. Judging by the creepy interfaces, these should be free at all.

Well they may have made a rod for their own back as they sell a developer license for $99 and I doubt the rules for kicking someone off the store would be “don’t like their aesthetic” or “floods market with shoddy product”, would have to include real legal reasons to ban them like proof they were stealing code or breaking terms and conditions of open source licenses by not attributing sources etc. I’d suggest the latter could be possible given the sheer number of modules, but you can’t ban someone from their store on the basis of suspicion.future-bit wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 11:55 am I also noticed that a lot of modules appeared. Maybe introduce a quality star rating system that only people who bought the modules or bundles they appear in can vote on? Showing number sold and rating could help sort wheat from chaff.

And on the other side, VCV gets some of the most desirable modules from some of the hottest developers free of charge...

Maybe they would come over to CA if it wasn't for the 99 buck fee!

CA could waive the fee for free modules, but that could flood the store. VCV has three times the modules, but a lot of overlap functionality tbh.SLiC wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 1:08 pm And on the other side, VCV gets some of the most desirable modules from some of the hottest developers free of charge...

VCV and me, problematic. the workflow, or something else i don't know. indeed so many modules.WatchTheGuitar wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 1:11 pmCA could waive the fee for free modules, but that could flood the store. but i discovered a few days ago;
frequency domain
modules, experimental modules, that i like. and i want. i am trying to get a developer into this, already before i discovered these modules for VCV rack. it seems he is experimenting... so, perhaps... spectral stuff (and granular stuff, where is it, a granular module, with 16 outputs, each for one grainstream! so you can per grainstream, do you thang with grains!)
still i can make great patches in VM. but me like more spectral (FX, morphing), additive and granular synthesis, as modular as possible.
of course you can do already some granular in VM, but a dedicated granular module would be better, although the byte oscillator... can do granular... quite an experimental beast the byte oscillator.
that is what i like, and VM needs, besides a MSEG....
and of course with "normal" modules, combinations, patching you can already achieve experimental sounds. so that is also great.
but still
spectral
additive
granular

I agree, I use both but I will always use VCV as that is where the Hardware Euro Developers seem to develop modules (open source thing I guess, MI, Befaco, Expert Sleepers, Greyscale, Instruon etc) and its nice to try the modules when considering buying them for a hardware rack. CA Modules are great and I am all in with their stuff but haven't really bothered with any 3rd party modules, I tend to treat it as a closed ecosystem with just the CA stuff and VCV for the rest.WatchTheGuitar wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 1:11 pmCA could waive the fee for free modules, but that could flood the store. the MRB stuff, VUlt stuff (i bought them for VM ánd VCV, although not all for VCV, one bundle i didn't buy, yet?), weevil? great stuff..... the zeroscillator... wow... the byte oscillator...SLiC wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 1:24 pmI agree, I use both but I will always use VCV as that is where the Hardware Euro Developers seem to develop modules (open source thing I guess, MI, Befaco, Expert Sleepers, Greyscale, Instruon etc) and its nice to try the modules when considering buying them for a hardware rack. o well, everyone has it's own way of working, and that keeps differences alive.

I’m only aware of Vult who make modules for both, more quality makers at VM would be very welcome. The reason there aren’t more is probably VM’s choice of Java as the programming language for module development. Most DSP code used in hardware Eurorack modules will have been written in C as it offers performance advantages for realtime usage thus much easier to port over. And that’s also probably why Vult has built for both as their modules are written in their own vult language and that is translated for the particular host language so Vult would just need to write something that translated between Vult and Java once then run all their module code through it.SLiC wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 1:24 pmI agree, I use both but I will always use VCV as that is where the Hardware Euro Developers seem to develop modules (open source thing I guess, MI, Befaco, Expert Sleepers, Greyscale, Instruon etc) and its nice to try the modules when considering buying them for a hardware rack. Programmers that know both C, Java and coding for real time DSP well are few and far between and can earn big bucks in other areas so not surprising there’s not been much overlap.
As said above, there are some great devs producing for VM though.
