Now you have to hold CMD to be able to change the velocity.
This is so stupid, half of the fun of ableton is how quickly you can pencil in (and delete) notes with different velocity values.
You can. There's a setting to keep the old behaviour or use the new one.docbot wrote: Mon Feb 01, 2021 10:38 pm I don't know what they're smoking over at Ableton, but they just implemented a change in the latest beta so when using the original Pen Tool you can no longer just drag down to change the velocity of a note you just clicked in (while still holding down the mouse button).

Nope, that's exactly what doesn't work anymore. It fixes the pitch but it won't allow you to change the velocity anymore by just dragging up and down.antic604 wrote: Mon Feb 01, 2021 10:49 pmYou can. I'm sorry, I have complain on the beta forum that Ableton was the only DAW that we were not able to write notes without accidentally change velocity. Personally I prefer by far how it is right now.docbot wrote: Mon Feb 01, 2021 11:11 pmNope, that's exactly what doesn't work anymore. Ableton was the only pen that doesn't have shortcut bloat, you could work on a little track in bed just using the touchpad of your laptop, but not anymore...
that's exactly why I liked ableton, because it doesn't have all this daw bloat of the others. I find this change really frustrating, have been using Live forever and all of a sudden I have to press an extra key all the time. simply annoying.Jolaff wrote: Mon Feb 01, 2021 11:25 pmI'm sorry, I have complain on the beta forum that Ableton was the only DAW that we were not able to write notes without accidentally change velocity. Now you can do it with the "arrow tool" ...but you will have to double click each time you write a note.docbot wrote: Mon Feb 01, 2021 11:33 pmthat's exactly why I liked ableton, because it doesn't have all this daw bloat of the others. If you’re Yakuza you’re not gonna have many of those.melomood wrote: Tue Feb 02, 2021 12:13 am Hopefully not too many fingers will suffer permanent tip damage from having to press a key
When doing nothing, my left hand always rest over my keyboard ...thumb ready over CMD key (because most keyboard short cut use CMD)... that's not a big deal for me to apply a down force with my thumb to change velocity ...if I need to let the artist in me get crazy...jonljacobi wrote: Thu Feb 04, 2021 1:15 am To those that would cheer such a change... Ableton gives you an artist's tool capable of great refinement and expression, and adds much needed variation to the musical process, and you want to turn into a f**king rubber stamp? Seriously?
