Now that LV2 support is coming, do you think the REAPER is king in Linux land? If not, then which one?
And do you use Native or Wine version? Any big difference in performance?

Mixbus works too, of course with LV2. Harrison actually sells their own LV2 plugins.
And Tracktion's Waveform.

Does Bitwig support Lv2? Not that there’s much good stuff there.antic604 wrote: Wed Feb 03, 2021 4:22 pmBitwig, obviously.Danilo Villanova wrote: Wed Feb 03, 2021 4:08 pm Now that LV2 support is coming, do you think the REAPER is king in Linux land? If not, then which one?

Yes, Mixbus is great but I don’t think it’s useful for MIDI work.ReleaseCandidate wrote: Wed Feb 03, 2021 4:27 pm Mixbus works too, of course with LV2. Harrison actually sells their own LV2 plugins.

Is Waveform stable on Linux?

No, it isn't at all. But to mix with it is actually great, so a good combination with Bitwig.Danilo Villanova wrote: Wed Feb 03, 2021 4:34 pmYes, Mixbus is great but I don’t think it’s useful for MIDI work.ReleaseCandidate wrote: Wed Feb 03, 2021 4:27 pm Mixbus works too, of course with LV2. Is Waveform stable on anything? I like their ideas (except their 'groove doctor' to get transients/bend markers), but ...

The only ones with proper Jack Audio and Jack/Alsa MIDI support are probably Ardour and Qtractor.
All the rest just don't know how to integrate into a modular DAW environment.
Actually NON probably did it best in this regard.
Personally I use Qtractor for midi recording/arranging/playback. Carla as a stand-alone plugin host. And a variety of utilities for audio and midi manipulation. All controlling outboard gear that I in the end record through my mixing desk.
Oh, and the MOD devices units are probably the next best thing of putting that entire workflow into a tiny portable box that I can take to a friend or a gig (remember those?).

I've used linux Reaper with both jack and alsa midi in several distros, for years. I do pretty basic sessions, but have never experienced issues with connecting instrument and effect plugins, or hardware devices. Same goes for using windows reaper with wine. I have Mixbus and Bitwig 8-Track, but find them a bit tedious for normal use, but tolerate that for the special purposes they are good at. If qtractor gets a proper preset manager for plugins, I'd use it sometimes. The dev worked out loading 'vst-shell' plugins, and was a great help for users of U-he linux ports. His padthv1 synth sounds great, but the competition does to, and has proper preset handling

Music is the reason I have stayed on Windows. I suppose I am part of the problem. There was the story years back about Blender 3D doing an all-open-source video but then people realized that the music had been written on Windows still. Back then it was pretty rough. LMMS (Linux FL clone) supposedly has Windows VST support inside Linux now. Unsure if you need Wine/VeSTige or anything. Stuff with advanced copyright protection probably won't work though.

That's what I mean. As stand-alone all these DAWs are probably fine, but I don't use any software standalone. I want all my software to work in unison for whatever purpose I have in mind.
And in that regard only the aforementioned softwares actually do it correctly. You can arbitrarily create ports (audio and/or midi) and route them however you want. This is not the case with many other applications.
Reaper is somewhat on the right track, but I find the UI to be way too confusing with infinite number of menus and configurations for even simple functionality. It's powerful, but definitely not for me.
I think since I mostly do things with MIDI this is my main issue. Almost no of the available DAWs allow me to arbitrarily create midi ports and route them in jack. They all think they should bind directly to "hardware" (even if it's another software running side-by-side) ports, which is utterly stupid and not what I want at all
