Quantisation problem in Reaper

I notice some parts are ever so slightly off beam and I can't find any way, other than to go into the midi editor and quantise each part. That's a bit tedious. Is there no global 'snap' setting or quantise?

Ive asked in the Reaper main forums, but no help

Ok, that's because the "Snap-Grid-Preferences" are a bit cluttered and
confusing.

So that all item movements always lock onto the grid, you have to:
Switch off all preference information of the type "Snap to other
items" or "snap to regions" or "snap to envelope-points". Make sure
that only "Snap to Grid" remains!

thanks

Yeah that doesn't work I'm afraid. Problem still remains. What's needed, if it's there, is the means to snap to the bar or the relevant factor therein (such as eight note/whole note etc). It's not correctly snapping.

Post

Here it works perfectly: Item always snap to the whole bar.

I don't know why this isn't working, but it does cause problems. No good rolling your eyes, that doesn't really help me

Sorry, you're right!

When I started to use Reaper in the earliest times, the
items did not lock into place properly. They were
somewhere - almost always slightly offset.

But that was due to the Snap Grid settings: I went through
every single point very carefully and set it "correctly".
Then everything was clear: all items snap into place
exactly on the grid - without exception!

If you've done that now, and the items are still floating
around somewhere, tcha, then unfortunately I don't
know what to do next. Sorry! :(

I've done what was suggested here, but that doesn't work. I don't know what other settings I should look at as there are so many. All I want is snap to bar (or 8th/16th/quarter note fractions thereof) but that option isn't apparent

Post

Mmmh ... you can post the "Snap/Grid Settings": Right-click on the
toolbar grid-button. A window with all snap-settings will open,
and there we will see what went wrong.

These are the settings for snap/grid that I typically use for the project view. The dropdown menu within the outlined option below should do what you are asking.

From your screenshot it looks like your items are snapping to media items, so try to turn off 'Snap media items to nearby media items up to...', this should make it snap only to the grid.

Yes, what ENV1 said, + :

Check the line:
"Snap |_| Media Items |_| Selection |_| Cursor to selection/markers/cursor"
all markings here must be removed!

Thanks, I'll try that.

Thanks.

That's not switched off in your example though.

Yep I get this some times. My solution to to remake the parts and re-align. So no help there really!

When you record MIDI, right click on the track record arm button and select: "Preserve PDC delayed monitoring in recorded items". Then, everything should line up better requiring less quantization later.
