Wired is an audio/MIDI-sequencer for Linux.
Looks the business.
It's still in it's infancy- version 0.1, even. Looks like something that has the potential to get big, as long as it doesn't get abandoned.
Screenshots = teh yumm33. Hasn't got that clunky Cubasis AV look Muse and Rosegarden have.

wish I would understand how to install this.
I just installed asuse linux, but still some parts dont work and I dont know anything about linux and how to work with it, and how to install new programms.
I knew a few years ago, but since then I forgot everything, and became a Windoze whore

My experience with SUSE is that it really isn't geared toward AV (even though MainActor is included in the distro).
Wired comes as source only, so you would have to unTar it and then do ./configure && make && make install.
Then you'll find out that you're missing a number of libraries that are needed to make this run.
If you manage to get it to work on SUSE, you'll have a build that is configured to your system, which would be good, I guess.
Still, I'd look into Planet CCRMA or DeMuDi instead.

but I tried to have a look into CCRMA and didnt understand a word on how to install or use asair

Still linux looks like a great mystery to me when it comes to musicmaking

This is how far I have made it:
Download the RedHat disk-images. This could be RH 8 or nine or Fedora Core 1 or 2.
Fedora C1 it the current distro to be used with CCRMA, Core 2 can be used but is still experimental.
Install just like any other distro.

Next, you download the FC1-updates. You burn these images on CDRs.
Additionally, you can download the Planet CCRMA packages as images. If the machine you plan on using isn't hooked up to the .net this would be the way to proceed.

Otherwise, use the apt-get setup utility to complete installing the Planet CCRMA packages.
RedHat/Fedora doesn't usually come with apt-get, but Planet CCRMA does and it's a great addition (2).
From that point on, follow the instructions on the site.

The only thing I haven't figured out yet is what type of install would be recommended. I tried "custom" but see (1).

(1) The installer froze the moment I tried to select a partition. Not sure if this was due to a previous installed Linux, ReiserFS or the fact that my disk is set to LBA.
I'll try later after I KillDisked the volumes.

(2) I've been using Fink a lot, lately, on OSX. It's basically apt-get and it's great. Deals with dependancies, builds from source when needed, &c.

I recently installed DeMuDi myself, and I'm pretty happy with it. It sounds like a simpler installation than Planet CCRMA as well, as you only have one CD to download, and don't have to bother with installing red hat/debian first. The only thing is that it uses (a slightly modified version of?) the debian installer, which isn't the frendliest installer around (though you could always try the RehMuDi version instead). Apart from initially recognising my p4 as an athlon

, installation went fairly smoothly for me, and it seemed to recognise all my other hardware correctly.

The problem with wired (as far as I can tell) is that it relies on wxWidgets v2.5.x, which isn't supplied by the main debian repository (I'm using synaptic and the unstable debian branch to keep my system up to date). Currently, debian still uses the stable v2.4.2 version of wxwidgets, and it's not a trivial task to replace it if (like me) you've got a lot of other applications that depend on it. There's probably a way to have both versions installed, but I'm not sure how you'd go about doing that...

Aaah. So what's so "yummy" about the screenshots?
