I got recently Waves Metafilter and I really like the filters. I'm surprised because I didn't expect Waves to make such nice sounding filters.
I'm replacing good ol' FilterFreak with Metafilter because it has more... 'warmth'? However one may call it, I feel good, it pleases my ears when I hear Metafilter in action while FilterFreak is not impressing me anymore (it still has nice Output saturation tho).
For the price (free/$29) I think that it's an excellent filter and I encourage to test it if someone is interested.
I'm pretty sure that Drop and other plugins have also great sounding filters but they're more expensive than Metafilter.

Ps. I'm working in 96k which may have impact and Metafilter may not sound that good in 44.1k - just a suspicion.

I remember some use cases for which the dry, non-resonant ASR10 filters were just great... and my conclusion after all the time is that it is a matter of taste and what you want to achieve.

And I'd rather get Hardware for just a little more than a costly Plugin from an inactive compan.

Nothing beats Cytomic The Drop. But I do agree on the inactive company bit...

Autofilter with Cytomic models in Live 10, but The Drop from Cytomic is in the sights..

I´d say that it depends on the use case, the targets and the filtered sound and have to admit that I never use my Virus for filtering, although it would probably beat the drop in >50% of the usual cases for a filter. It simply sound too fat and dirty for what I usually do with filters.

Runciter isn't as good a filter, but it has a lovely grit to it and can almost double as a distortion.

I'm hoping that an updated uhbik will include an updated filter. Feels like uhbik was abandoned and Uhe released more stand alone FX instead of extending uhbik. Always thought that was a shame...

2.0 alpha has been out a while with great compressor added and new reverb algos, new modulation options and overhauled GUI.
Runciter is rumored to get additional filters.
You can use 2.0 alpha with uhbik v1 serial. Been using them for a year

more stable than some official releases from other vendors.

It was nice when some of the Cytomic models showed up in Live.

Two classics I seem to go back to again and again are Etch & Wow2. Arguably I have heard better, but both have ample & intuitive modulation systems & it's easy to come up with fascinating soundscapes.

Come to think of it, you can get very weird with some of the FxPansion stuff (partly abandonware) ..anybody remembering Fusor?

In addition to that I'm quite fond of hardware filter boxes.

Not meant to be purely a filter, nor to be modulated (but you can still use your daw modulators to achieve it) but I am always pleased by the results I get from Decimort 2 filter section, even without using the bitcrusher part. Might be my favourite one when I want to do some heavy low pass filtering on a full mix. Ableton Auto Filter being the other one.

Decimort is a DAC emulator - not just a BC. Demo it, you'll see quickly.

I use RX950 complementary and recommend both.

What Filter do you use ?
