..i'm a bit underwhelmed. :( I guess I had high expectations based on the association with barefoot?
My room is fairly well treated (corner bass traps, 1st reflections, rear bass traps, and others throughout the room).

The biggest thing, or lack thereof, is the bass. I mean, no thump, nothing. It's like hardly there. Good for neighbors, but bad for me. My home theater system costs a bit more, and sounds leaps better in a nearly untreated room. The speakers are rested on an output desk (love it), but I'll move them to the rear wall soon. Just thought I'd post my initial impressions.

I think if I had the money I'd get the focal twin 6be. Granted, they're not in the same league, but apparently these frontier monitors sound 2x their price, and they absolutely do not. Not even close. They sound like how they're priced (or lower) I'm sorry to say. I think I'll get better bang for the buck with Mackie HR824s + a sub based on hearing them in a studio.

Or maybe I just need to get a sub. Sigh..and here I was telling my missus that I'm gonna be using them for the next 10 years while unpacking them with glee.

They do look gorgeous though, so I'll give 'em that.

If you want thump, then get a sub. No nearfield monitor will shake yer flare pants or make you feel the base in yer stomach. For that you need to move a serious amount of air at 20 Hz.

Just looked at the spec sheet of these speakers. They claim frequency response starting at 45 Hz, but do not say whether that's the -3dB or -10dB point. The user's guide does have a plot at which you can see it's the -3dB point. But the bad news is it's going very steep downhill from there. So it was predictable.

But these can be very usable nearfield monitors. Alas they just don't thump. No nearfield monitor does.

Look into Presonus Sceptre S8 and Fluid FX8/80, if you want monitors that can thump.

Fluid's are 35Hz +/-3dB, check them out if you can, I don't think you will be disappointed how they perform down there.
