Adding "Grit" or "Rasp" to Vocals - any vst plugin suggestions appreciated

I'm returning to home recording after over a decade away and am having to replace all my old 32 bit plugins with 64 bit ones. I am so out of touch with what is around I am finding it overwhelming!
I've done a lot of searching about replacement instruments but am just starting to explore effects.
I have a clean sounding voice and prefer it to have a bit more character for many of the songs I do. I used to use Blockfish compressor which had a useful control for dialling in some grit/rasp/distortion - I'm not sure how to describe what I am looking for, just not clean.
There seem to be saturators, compressors, distortion plugins and I don't really know where to start!
I preferably, want something free or costing very little.
I hope that makes some sort of sense.
Any suggestions to get me started would be really appreciated.

Vocal grit and rasp is about the performance and can’t be faked IMO. Adding distortion to a clean vocal will not cut it.

Rafael - I agree that I am not going to appear to have a great rock voice by using a plugin.
But, with the best performance of that type I can give, plus suitable plugin enhancement, I feel it has made my vocal more characterful.

I like Waves Kramer Tape for this. It combines tube distortion of its preamp stage with the tape (over)saturation, making the sound more complex (to my ears). Downside: it's not phase linear so you have to keep this in mind when using in parallel.

as within a compressor this sounds a little bit like steppy/aliasing loudness leveling
imho the waves bss dpr402 has this with more extreme settings (very fast release)
i.e.: not well smoothed envelopes

Mjuc Jr free varimu compressor and fuse audio rs-w2395 free eq which has a nice drive knob for saturation. Try them.

Assuming your DAW can't do it, get a 32 to 64 bit bridge and use Blockfish.

Seems like that's the case. There was a discussion about it on VI-Control some time ago, and there were some options, but the results were just not usable for main vocals (unless some experimental thing is in order--or metal or hardcore, maybe?).
