The DSPplug smooth is a mastering limiter that is in a state of flux and I cater to requests in regards to the direction of the product. I'm trying to keep the products utilization of resources down to 1% CPU, I believe in FL studio (windows 64) it's using rough 1.5%.
I designed the DSPplug smooth to be something that I could use for sound mixing and music making competitions. So often the maximum true peak is -1 dBFS TP and that's very hard to ensure with conventional technology. So I made something that does that and more, it will also allow you to specify whether the end sound sounds like stereo, mid or side. I added this feature due to the fact that mid and side (invented by Alan Blumlein) reduce distortion a great deal and ultimately I felt a limiter would be better served by housing such a technology, in such a way that it did not hamper true stereo functionality.
Moreover, you have to push against the DSPplug smooth with gain, so as to make it do what it does. What it's doing is exerting an exponential level of saturation that overpowers the loudest of signals. But interestingly, because I made this algorithm to detect loudness and decrease its presence in lesser instances it will actually create a "fake" new dynamic.
So, you're getting the capability of a True Peaking Ceiling Limiter, and yet; you're not getting a flat line.
You may notice that the levels seem a little quieter than you'd like at most extremes, this is taking into account a bounced file type often being louder; especially in the case of an MP3.

It's a work in progress as I am transcribing and re-performing the singing. I'd just roughed the vocals in so as to decide whether or not the track had potential to be released.
I've been working day and night on this technology and I will certainly augment and add to it from customers who have constructive suggestions that I can implement into the codebase of the DSPplug smooth, available in the KVR marketplace:

The smooth is a 32 and 64 Bit compatible VST, in both VST2 and VST3 forms with no anti-piracy protection or licensing features to slow down your music making

Thanks for your reply, I want to point out there will be a revision of this product that will hopefully be a bit more forgiving and it will sound more commercial. You currently have to use this product in such a way so that you mix using this in your master until it sounds good, and in that respect it works well enough; that fell a bit short of My end goal however.
I was mostly limited by the fact that were no working examples of a true peak limiter and I had to make the math from scratch. In the next phase of this functional prototype there will be an algorithm of two, three or four compressors, functioning like abs brakes, grabbing just a bit until they finally bring the levels to a halt.
It's My hope that this method will allow Me to create something that is not only innovative and safe but also user-friendly for the beginner and musician who does not wish to think about DSP and levels. Though, as I reminded; safety should be number 1, I remember admittedly when I just loved signals over 0 dbfs, still do in a way I suppose; but there's a responsible, caring future ahead of us all I guess; no better time to start than now.
