Voted! Had great fun listening. It's also super-useful: Listening to your tracks and interpreting where you're coming from musically always shines a new light on some of my own ideas and processes - so thanks for that, and for another brilliant month!

Done my first pass of voting. Hoping to give everything another listen and refine my votes a bit. Loads of amazing tracks this month. Just five voting "levels" is not a lot of dynamic range to work with, so I've used them all to enable me to reward the tracks that particularly connected with me, but the creativity and skill on display impressed me even on ones I gave "low" marks to.

The problem with voting schemes is that there will always be a call for "one more category bin"! It's always a fine balance between the objectivity side of things and the subjectivity side. Towards which side of these 2 depends very much on the individual listener.
I have usually used 2-5, but now and then used the 1 bin as well, for added "range". I just think that first putting your own track in a 1 bin is just an "administrative move", after that you do have the range 1-5 to use. I know people say that they don't like to put a track into the 1 bin as they "think" it means the track is really bad, and don't want to give this impression to the composer. But then, maybe when you use the 2-5 scale the same argument then applies to the 2 bin? So I am not afraid to use the full scale to help divvy up the votes. A 1 vote means that in my eyes/ears it's not as "good" as a 5 vote. Simples!

Isn’t a 1 an 1nsult?doctorbob wrote: Tue Feb 09, 2021 2:36 pm Yup, sometimes a track is really bad, but also, the "artist" knows it and won't be surprised to get lots of "1"'s![]()

No, a 1 is just the bottom of the range 1-5 ... by that argument a 2 is also an "insult" if you choose to use 2-5 as a scale? I have had plenty of "1"'s from people, it doesn't upset me, nor am I insulted.

Two years ago, when I was used to check the score spreadsheet, I often got 1s and 5s in the same month. Today I don't look at the spreadsheet anymore and don't give 1s because I never liked to receive them, but also because I hardly find tracks that are so bad for me.Tj Shredder wrote: Wed Feb 10, 2021 1:46 pmIsn’t a 1 an 1nsult?doctorbob wrote: Tue Feb 09, 2021 2:36 pm Yup, sometimes a track is really bad, but also, the "artist" knows it and won't be surprised to get lots of "1"'s![]()

Other people use 1s ergo i will use 1s. I'm not going to vote other people 2 whilst they vote me 1. I thought this is a friendly competition? Does anybody have concerns about revenge voting if you gave somebody a low vote? I think everybody should just vote everybody 5, that's the solution
However a wise person once said: It's not the winning but taking part that matters.
I think this is especially true for the OSC.

I don't give 1's unless there is serious issues with the mix and/or arrangement is totally clichéd and deathly dull and completely and unintentionally atonal.
I figure anyone who took the time to enter and avoid those major problems deserves a two even if I don't like the style/song/sounds.
