I have absolutely no objection to what Die Antwoord do,
they r one of my faves-
but they come from a world where it's not domestic like me
check the one with the chogaloch or whatever
when they take the gloves off these cats are wild
a couple of the ones with 16 are nightmares

I think art can portray a beauty or aesthetic to a fantastic degree

This was my first exposure to Die Antwoord:



Instant love.

Very entertaining stuff and they're clearly having fun.

Video reminded me a little of Windowlicker in terms of humour. Maybe not quite as funny - though I first saw Windowlicker whilst high and found myself crying with laughter - whereas I was cold sober when I saw the promo for Fatty Boom Boom.



Then I hear them rapping over an Aphex Twin track and the circle is complete.

I 100% agree with Vurt, art should portray all of life. There is no doubt that Die Antwoord have the shock factor and it is understandable that some people might feel uncomfortable watching and listening to them. To use the analogy of a painting in an art gallery, one person will look upon a controversial piece of art and say it is rubbish, offensive, and my child would do a better job. Another person would see hidden genius, wonderful vibrant colours, and meaning ect, ect. For me they are that painting which I personally find interesting.I don't really see them as any more controversial than some other hip hop groups across the globe it is often the nature of that genre, swearing and controversial lyrics are common place. If anything what makes them different is there music videos which i think are very artistic compared to other videos by other artists in their genre which tend to be all very similar to me. The video above just proves my point, gangsta's and hoes.

I seen them on David Letterman and thought it was absolutely hilarious . But different . Ninja can rap . And the background music with the rap . "I think u freeky " Pretty cool it ended up on Letterman. And then years latter the Chappie movie . The guy that directed Chappie directed District 9 which is one of my favorite movies . I too love to watch Die Antwoord music videos . I think it's hilarious. Whether you like it or not it is Art .

All they need is a few episodes of American Gods & a few choice Steeleye Span songs,which are reworked versions of old folk tunes of those times,that do relate tales of a far less ideal life,to get that pastoral music out of their heads

I hear you reasoning Vurt and I like the way you view the situation and yes maybe I should recalibrate my veiw point from an art and fun perspective.. how ever its difficult to find the fun factor in it when they are and all out shock rock and open wounds which is very painful considering the sensitivity and fragillity of our country's political, social and religious setup.. our nation is diverse and extremely triggerd... I mean one shampoo brand advertised shampoo for people with blonde hair and implied that bblack peoples hair is damaged.. well the next day one of the triggerd political party which are thug orientatied and they wipped up 200000 of its members to smash and loot the shop and Retail line shops that stock this product...... its not fun to witness anarchy that can get triggerd but stupid stuff and belive me ..music has always had a message that would incite violence here when used buy politics. .. but from a objectional point of view, musically speaking and production wize.. Ninja is brilliant.. from lyrical content.. not so brilliant.. I am actually surprized that there is quite an amusement with them and a somewhat liking to them here at kvr.. but then again kvr... is an interesting and diverse place!!
