a clipper plugin that offers a wealth of options which is currently on sale for just under £13. which is around 90% off. worth checking out for that price! I just picked it up in this sale as I have been experimenting a lot more lately with clippers on the master and i'm looking to try out combining clippers with limiters to see what effect they can have.

Demoed it some months ago. It's worthless and i surely wouldn't let it near any master (or any signal for that matter).
There are tons of free clippers out there that are better, but best is to just buy SIR Standardclip if you need clean clipping before your limiter.

I noticed there wasn't a lot of reviews on it, I was curious to know why you don't like it. worthless seems like a strong statement to make, is it really that bad?...dionenoid wrote: Thu Feb 11, 2021 12:34 pm Demoed it some months ago. At KVR, you'll get the same sort of response regardless of what product you get from SoundSpot. Some of their UIs are really good looking, but the sound is an issue, for some reason.wojf62902 wrote: Sun Feb 14, 2021 11:21 pm I noticed there wasn't a lot of reviews on it, I was curious to know why you don't like it. worthless seems like a strong statement to make, is it really that bad?...
Another thing is overpricing. Like a few other companies, they set a high normal price, and then constantly run these 90%-off sales, typically at PB. So, I'm not saying the effect in question is useless (as I haven't tried it), but SoundSpot, pricing and KVR, well, it's not a threesome made in heaven.

I can see how consistent sales cuts can raise suspicion, although I have purchased izotope products this way as I noticed they had huge sales on very often and I don't tend to think their sale products are "worthless" or hugely overpriced. in fact I find some of their plugins quite useful and had it not been for the sales might have considered paying full price for particular ones. as for soundspot, I use their 'fat' filter and looks aside I find it's a perfectly good filter plugin, definitely adequate. it sounds great and it's free as well.SparkySpark wrote: Sun Feb 14, 2021 11:51 pmAt KVR, you'll get the same sort of response regardless of what product you get from SoundSpot. when it comes to clippers I have a difficult time determining why something seems to get a lot of positive attention vs why something seems almost universally hated on here? I thought about starting up a thread on flatline when it was released as quite a few people have been raving about it. and from the demo's I heard it sounds like it was doing a good job of being transparent. but looking at the thread that was created on here recently people seem to take a totally different view? bit confusing.

Essentially all clippers sound the same (given that you can fully influence the shape from fully soft clipping to fully hard clipping). Clipping (aka static waveshaping) is a quite primitive process if you think about it.
The only difference is in the implementation of oversampling and additional parameters. No oversampling or badly implemented oversampling leads to noticable artefacts!
I doubt that Nevo clipper can do anything that can't be done in the freely avalable FreeClip or GClip plugins.
If you want to spend money on a clipper, get StandardClip, VClip or LVC Clipped-Max - they all have some additional tricks under the hood.
Flatline is overpriced and performs worse than freeware (there is an in-depth shootout video about it on Youtube).

yes, I have been having difficulties hearing the difference, I had previously been using freeclip, the assumption on my part was that paying for a clipper would get me a better result.. in demo video's I have liked what I have heard in nevo and in flatline, but then that suggests that maybe I appreciate a sound which isn't objectively what is best for the overall track?Kazi7 wrote: Mon Feb 15, 2021 11:05 am Essentially all clippers sound the same (given that you can fully influence the shape from fully soft clipping to fully hard clipping). in some recommended plugins I can't hear the difference in how they claim to be an improvement, but other people can, which is confusing. considering my music is not just for my consumption this needs to be something taken into consideration when I make my decisions.

I know someone who makes distorted, grungy music who likes soundspot because it makes his music sound bad. So maybe you also like that kind of music? It costs less to produce, too.

You can hear the difference if you use the clipper on a signal with lots of higher frequency content, like strings played in a higher octave or hihats, some types of percussion etc.
Make a test and use FreeClip on such material with no oversampling and then increasing the OS step by step. You may experience how the fidelity of the processed signal changes.
No imagine how a plugin that has either no OS at all or badly implemented OS would perform (lots of unpleasant aliasing, you can even see this in a frequency analyzer).
Flatline eg has oversampling, but not very good one. It still has audible artefacts, as demonstrated in that shootout video very vividly, unlike some other clippers at the exact same OS setting. The Fabfilter style interface looks good though.

It's really that bad yes. It starts to sound grainy pretty fast and breaks up in a bad way way faster than any other clipper i own or demoed. It really destroys your signal in a bad way, causes huge DC offsets, transient smearing, and aliases like crazy, because of the lack of proper oversampling options.wojf62902 wrote: Sun Feb 14, 2021 11:21 pmI noticed there wasn't a lot of reviews on it, I was curious to know why you don't like it. worthless seems like a strong statement to make, is it really that bad?...dionenoid wrote: Thu Feb 11, 2021 12:34 pm Demoed it some months ago. But those things aside, I bet you really like it.dionenoid wrote: Mon Feb 15, 2021 1:21 pm It starts to sound grainy pretty fast and breaks up in a bad way way faster than any other clipper i own or demoed.
