Nick Hamilton wrote:Hello everybody,

There is another Hammond plug-in that I don't think anyone has mentioned, the Air Music Tech DB-33.

It has been around for a while and a lot of ProTools users have been using it as their Hammond sound in their productions.

It works in the Audio units and VST formats. The AAX version is only available in the AIR Instrument Expansion Pack 3.

It is currently on Promo at $9.99, so it might be demoing to see how it stands compared to all the others mentioned in this thread.

Best regards,

Nick
Well. I, for one, haven't mentioned it for a reason...
Everyone is entitled to make up their own mind of course ;)
I wish I had read that before.

Unusual for me I bought this without demoing as I didn't assume that Nick was lying to us only to make a few bucks.

...boy was I wrong
This is so shitty, I can't believe it.

Hello rasmusklump,

Very sorry to hear you are disappointed with the DB-33. They have been selling very well especially at the reduced price.

I did mention to demo it before picking it up.

Please send us a support ticket and we will refund you.

Best regards,

Nick

Of course, this is just my opinion, but I don't think DB-33 sounds particularly "horrible".

It is by no means in the best emulation out there, but it sounds reasonably close and sits well in a mix.
I don't really use it as a lead instrument, but I definitely think it has it's uses and $10 seems like a reasonable price (to me anyway, I got it as part of AIEP).

That being said, my vote for king would also have to be Blue3 or VB3.
Since I can't use 32 bit plugins in Logic X anymore, Blue3 has become my go to replacement for VB3.

As I said before, just my opinion for what little it's worth. :)

I'm firmly in the AcousticSamples B5 camp. Sounds excellent!

AcousticSamples B-5 FTW
Running Logic Pro 10.4 under Sierra on a late 2012 27" iMac wth 24 GB RAM :tu:

I bought the B5 with the latest rebates on black friday. imho Blue3 is on a different level. I think its on par with today's top clonewheels.

Thanks! Much appreciated. I'm a total newbie at the digital stuff.

GGaudio Blue 3.

/end thread.

Blue3 v2 is out. It's here and it sounds amazing. It also had a complete UI overhaul and it looks great!
Check it out!

Acoustic Samples B5 is my favourite followed by Blue3 v2 then GSI VB3-II.

To me, B5 (I bought it half a year ago) is a bit less "alive" than Blue3 v2 and VB3 v2. Not to mention the leslie sim, an area where Blue3 in v2 absolutely blew all competitors out of the water. It's also amazing how it rose and continues development so quickly (Blue3 that is).

It's an amazing period, to have such amazing emulations of a Hammond as plugins!

I hear what you’re saying about B5 sounding a little less “alive” on its default setting but after tweaking a few of the settings I’m now finding the opposite. I’ve tried tweaking Blue3 v2 and VB3-II but find they can start to sound more digital and artificial.
I own B5 and tried the demos of Blue3 vII and VB3-II but B5 remains my favourite.

Time to change the thread title! We don't need a 'new king of Hammond plugins' – we already have three! It's just a matter of taste now…

If it were easy, anybody could do it!

Has anyone tried x42 Setbfree? (nevetmind, it's LV2 only, no VST)

DB-33 was a bit disappointing when I tried it, maybe it was considered good 15 years ago?

Out of the ones I had an opportunity to use the old GSI (have not tried the new one) and Native Instruments sample-based Vintage Organs for Kontakt were the best tonewheels.

I didn't read the whole thread, but did vB3 v2 get lost to some license setup? I remember it being integrated into some hardware device and then nothing. It's 64bit and working fine in my windows setup. I think it is pretty great. O would prefer a working version of NI b4 but it won't run as a plugin on my system. So I still use vB3 and haven't found anything better.
Don't F**K with Mr. Zero.
