IK Multimedia Installer, do they still make you install all their demos?

I have some great IKM products but I haven't been using them because the installer is such a mess with all the demos it installs.
Have they changed that? I haven't tried it in about a year.

Honest question - why is it such a big deal? I wouldn't call it a mess, I mean, sure, I don't need all the junk it installs if I don't own it, but it's not a disaster. It wouldn't stop me installing something if I really wanted it.

Well, I only want to install Syntronik and the sounds I have bought, I get an error that says I need to install ST4 to use Syntronik, OK. Then I get 47GB of sounds on my drive and I don't what is bought or not. I go to load a sound and it says I need to authorize it, I can't tell what will load and what won't. and it takes up 47GB.

Because it is arrogant of a developer to do this. To think so little of their customers wishes. It is just plain rude.

For a company whose slogan is "Musicans first". Wasting peoples time so they have to clear up your mess, when they could be making music, makes a mockery of the slogan.

I know from experience many big developers are unconcerned with the convenience of customers. Just think about a developer releasing a tape sim without linked controls. No effort was made to study the competitor's products to improve the end user experience.

Some DAWs don't allow you to hide plugins, so it clutters up the browser. And yeah, you can manually delete the files, but then you have to do that every time there's an update.

Best to worst experiences:

1. Best experience: the installer knows what you have licenses for and only installs those products like Plugin Alliance.

2. The installer has checkboxes and you only check the boxes for the products you want to install. Those checkboxes are remembered for the next time you run the installer. This is the Slate VMR approach.

3. Your DAW allows you to hide plugins, so you just hide the ones you don't want to see once, and never worry about it again.

4. Worse experience: the installer forces you to install products you don't own and have no interest in and you're stuck with a cluttered plugin list or finding workarounds for that.

I think it is a fair request - this is not an adware, you paid for the product.

I delete all the extra junk. Of course it’s not a big deal, it’s just subnormal.

I wasn't aware its installing everything, I will have to check and delete, but off topic, that free Memory V they offer, I registered it to the product mananger ages ago and forgot about it, I was reminded yesterday, and tried to download it, they wanted 9 Euros 99 cents to download it.

Since when was a free item paid if you don't download it ? Starting to question IKM's business practices now. I questioned them about a T Racks upgrade path, and there wasnt one from the version I was using to the latest version. All seems dodgy tbh.

Any people have download caps and don't want to download 47gb of complete nonsense . Download amounts are very high right now as it is when people are staying home due to the virus.

I was tempted by the MemoryMoog freebie, not having used IK-anything since the very early SampleTank days.
Oh - new installer..ok.

Dang thing (the new installer) just sits there - try to install, click, nothing happens..at all. Googled issues with it, went to IK's forum site..see the FAQ..ok, nothing in the FAQ..ok, then file a trouble ticket and they'll get back to me. Nah - not going to bother.

Seemingly every other installer I have used works fine out of the gate. Finally, I reopened my old SampleTank box - oh yeah, actual physical media - that's why its install worked.

So much for IK - I won't be back.
