ThomasHelzle wrote: Fri Feb 19, 2021 7:55 pm No, the "VCV-Bridge" is/was a VST plugin from the VCV-devs you run in your DAW and it transports both Midi and Audio back and forth.
My version is from 11.24.2018, not sure when it was discontinued.
It's using the same VCV-devices as are shown in the Video, but instead of the IAC or Core Audio drivers (ASIO or Windows Midi on the PC) you select "Bridge" and a "Port" - up to 16 are available, 8 audio channels each and 16 Midi channels each.
Not too bad :-)
Ah, yes; I remember reading about that before I got involved. I think I was able to buy a VST-hosting device when I first got in; which was pretty cool…
But hopefully we will live to see VCV 2 come out which is supposed to be available as a VST.
Yeah, any info/rumors about what's holding VCV 2 up?
And I fully agree, virtual audio and Midi transport is clumsy on any platform, best on the Mac probably, on Linux with Jack it can do a lot but audio on linux is it's own nightmare (at least for me) and on Windows, Midi is covered well but Audio somehow not really AFAIK.
I've been wondering for years if there's maybe an easy hardware solution. It's been many years since I actually owned any hardware besides a simple USB-MIDI keyboard, so I don't have any experience with currently available audio interfaces, nor even MIDI interfaces. But I still wonder if it wouldn't work well with some of them to send everything out and then right back in, routing it all internally with the device's editor to resolve feedback, etc.
Cheers,

Tom

I also started with Usine and early Hollyhock but it never clicked with me. And I also ended up with Bitwig. Studio One as well, and have my Reaper license current, Reaper is still handy to authorise plugins tho as it is so quick to load.

This video that links ReMidi v 1, Scaler v 2 and Sonuscore The Orchestra Complete 2 is bonkers
OMG

Now THAT is truly a good time—THANK you! :D

Re: Bitwig:

Can the CV modulators in Reason Rack plugin be used as modulators within Bitwig?

(yes)

Back on Rapid Composer I again checked out this video by David.
Liked it a lot more this time.
Feed reMidi into RC?
Now $199. What is the lowest sale price?

Feed reMidi into RC?
Not as far as I know; RC doesn't record or respond to incoming MIDI in realtime; it just imports, and not all that quickly, no doubt because it has to do a lot of calculation when scanning imported MIDI to prepare it for conversion/manipulation in all the many ways it can be…and to make it compatible with all the existing imported data-types (rhythms, progressions, phrases, etc.)?
Now $199. What is the lowest sale price?
I don't recall seeing it for less.

"RC doesn't record or respond to incoming MIDI in realtime" Not a deal breaker because I saw what you did in real time inside Rapid Composer. IIRC you stated that RC was the best midi mangle around.

Not less than $199? Never on sale? :(

It was on sale 40% off for Holidays (through December 31) at $119. Attila does have sales.

Yeah, once you've got something on a track, it's realtime to run variations as it loops, but it's not really what you'd call a performance tool. I HAVE recorded messing around on looping tracks in it while also recording in Logic in realtime using the IAC driver, for further editing.

To be more specific, I find it has the best (and largest, and most tweakable—LOTS of parameters for every variation type) collection of MIDI mangling tools I've ever seen in one place, which is exactly what I tried to demo in that video, but as you can hear there, its variation options are mostly quite traditional (= very MUSICAL and not really about "mangling", IMO:), so someone looking for more aggressive or abstract-sounding or less predictable results may think some other "mangling" tool is better. RC is probably more accurately called the best "variations" tool for imported MIDI phrases and files that I know of. And the most fun:)

Incidentally, when I got interesting in OpusModus, my hope was to find it an even better "variator" for imported MIDI. But it's not much about doing that at all, actually; it's truly an algorithmic "composing" environment, in which you have to (and are able to) spell out in detail exactly what you want to have happen, which can include lots of randomness and unpredictability or not, as you prefer at the time. You can import MIDI, and then run code on that to get variations (and then wait for that to render!), but it's nothing like what I demo'ed doing in RC. Which was a bit of a disappointment to me until I got what its real focus (and power) was.

Any opinions on ReMidi?
It’s $19 at PB.

Hmmm. $119 is still a bit high but I put it on my likely to buy list at that price.

Glad RC is more on the "traditional" side rather than mangle. Excellent video!
I briefly checked out:
Orb Composer https://www.orb-composer.com/
Liquid Music https://www.wavedna.com/liquid-music/
and decided on Rapid Composer.

As for OpusModus, it is too advanced for me.
Good luck with it.

It's a bunch of classical music in midi form--famous old stuff. It slices the scores into small chunks you can play with a keyboard or other midi device (you can also drag the whole score into a track). I've only tinkered with it a bit (made shoddy versions of "Fur Elise" and "Ode to Joy"). I probably wasted my money, as I already don't feel like using it, but who knows? In a dry spell, I might get something out of it.
Doing nothing is only fun when you have something you are supposed to do.
