Rhino 2 can happily coexist with Rhino 1.x. You simply have to install it into a different folder, and copy your existing key file into this folder.

If you have installed Rhino 2 pre-release, you can install Rhino 2 over it - but you should manually delete the rhino2.dll file before doing so, as it will not be replaced by the installer.

Once you've installed Rhino2, new updates can be applied. Installing them is as simple as extracting the update zip file over your Rhino 2 installation.

I am having a hard time installing this update

After copying over the previous files with the update from the site, I open it in eXT.
Get the message that the database is being updated .

After that, I get exception errors from xt and the Rhino GUI is totally skewed, the bottom part unreadable.I have to reboot my system.

I try removing the DB file, and Rhino loads, however with errors it can't find the database operations and catagories ( of course) but at least it loads the sounds.

However, I will re-install the older version..any tips as to why this behavior? It also did the same thing on the standalone.

( having all sorts of PC computer issues lately..makes me want to go back to Atari :-)

EDIT: or should I download the large installer and try again?

You've replaced the skin.dat and skin.ini by the ones included in the update, have you ?

yes..I did. I even tried moving everything out of the folder into another one, and copying the update files again. Sorry if I'm having this problem and no-one else is :-)

you can contact me off line if you want.

Tim, just to confirm that the updater to 2.02 files do work ok, ...I had no problems here just letting them overwrite what was already there in my Rhino 2 folder.

[I like your comment about Atari ..hahaha... I still have the Atari's systems for you btw, but just have not had the darn time to deliver them! But they still are aimed at you..]

anyway, recently did some updating on my other system and found things that 'should' have been OK very not OK... including some display issues. That system uses a matrox G550 vid card... and getting their newest driver was part of the fix. It also runs an asus mobo and the rest of the fix was to get the newest bios for that... I just was lucky to guess that these might have been the problems otherwise I could have gone nuts trying to figure it out.

Perhaps you could mention the spec's of the system you running Rhino 2 on??? :?:

Nah, that's ultraweird... Try reinstalling it with the full 14 Mb file ? (backup your rhino.db file first if you value what's inside).

Tim - you're not alone. I did the 2.01 to 2.02 update this afternoon and got the same problems. I had to do a system restore from a restore point prior to the install to even get Age of Empires to run (for my six year old you understand - not for me of course  ).

I've installed it on my work laptop (standard Win XP Pro with no tweaks on an IBM T30 Thinkpad). I'm going to try uninstalling Rhino and doing a full reinstall (I've just downloaded the 14Mb installer).

I'll let you know how I get on.

Regards,

Derek.

Derek & Tim,

You say removing the rhino.db file cures the problem ? Then try to replace it with that one.

You didn't have any other instance of Rhino running when you performed the update ?

I can't honestly say that removing rhino.db cures the problem as I didn't really try to find out - I did an uninstall of Rhino 2 (from Windows Control Panel) then a full reinstall of v2.02 and now all is well in the world.

All I do know is that the incremental update didn't work (no instances of Rhino or anything else running when I did the update) but the full install is fine.

Derek.

I would love to try Rhino 2 on my Receptor. I Downloaded the Rhino2 Demo and installed it on my PC. Then I copied the VSTPlugins\Rhino2 directory to The Receptor's Unsupported directory. I then tried to install it. It seemed to install but when I instantiated it and tried to access it, I saw garbage instead of English.... and of course no sound. So, I deleted the directory, copied it over again and tried to install it. Now the installs fail! Any ideas?

Registered users can download a patched dll from my site. This dll works fine on Receptor.
