Fl Studio and NTFS???

I installed a clean version of XP today. I installed all hardware drivers and then FL Studio 4.5.2. It installed but never showed up under the start menu as installed. I went and clicked on the actual fl.exe icon in c:\program files\fl studio4. It never opens.
My question is does fl studio only run on FAT32? Do I need to install winrar to actually fully install this etc. I have a brand new version of XP with SP2 slip streamed into the disk. Why the crap will fl studio not open?

Although I can't help you, I can confirm that FL Studio runs on NTFS in Win2k. I don't know much about XP but I would imagine that if somethings runs on NTFS in Win2k it should do the same on XP?
Anyway, it does work on NTFS. Could be an SP2 problem perhaps?

I have used Windows 2K with FL for years, its in NTFS
FL runs in 2K SP4 plus WIN XP SP2 home n pro in NTFS
So your problem is not NT format related.
I would delete the FL folder – and re-install FL – then restart – if you don’t have start menu items (you probably tried installing while not with Administrator rights – check that before you next install FL)

I ran XP for awhile with not a single patch or service pack when I first got it. It wasn't hooked up to the network, so I didn't care. Worked flawlessly for my DAW.smart wrote:Brice, grab SP1 and SP2 maybe it'll help? From what I understand, SP1 was really important as far as making windows more compatible with misc software and drivers, although I never had 1 problem with XP ever. Maybe you should try a reboot and a reinstall?

Damn Brice you've had a hard time lately. Really can't help but just wanted to show sympathy.
For what it's worth I've been running FL Studio for quite a while on WinXP SP1 (SP1 came installed already). I've never bothered with SP2 because my DAW isn't connected to the net and everything is running smooth so if it ain't broke....
I really hope you get things worked out.

Many applications will require you to have either "Power User" or "Administrator" rights to run. Make sure the account you use to install FL Studio is the same one you use to RUN the software -- the registration information you get when you register the software is stored within the USER hive of the registry, not the SYSTEM hive.
Non-technical translation: Just make sure you run FL Studio from the same account you installed the software from.

I use FL and all my other audio softs with XP Home SP2. I do use this as an internet PC as well, and I have every single update from Windows Update with the exception of Windows Journal Viewer (stay away from that one - it's buggy because it somehow confuses itself with Adobe Acrobat Reader sometimes).

I would definitely say that this is not a disk file system issue- windows actually does all of the disk reads and writes, and FL or any other program will just pass the request and or data to windows to write to/read from the disk.
I think it *could* be that you did not install under admin privileges. If that is not it, try downloading it from Tucows again, as your copy may be corrupt. Either way, completely wipe it from the drive before proceeding.

It's working.
Tek I have had some recent crap luck....when it rains it pours.
I tried one more time to reinstall XP pro SP2 before I almost spent 199$ on home, and the son of bitch this time worked like a charm.
I spent all night last night reinstalling app's and getting codes. I only got to jam for a couple minutes off and on while installing apps, but RMX was killer. I can't wait till tonight
On a side note my monitor problem in the hardware area post needs to be updated as well, so off I go to update that post
