You're on point, Inside Studio One you can use SofTube tape as a multi track plugins on the master buss while it sounds great it also makes things a bit blurry when you are mixing a electronic dance music. It works better on individual channel.

Sometimes Satin works fine, sometimes Tape works fine, sometimes TB Ferox is nice, sometimes I wonder why I should use any tape. I ve been demoing Taupe recently, well, it's a channel strip, you get some pseudo tape without the features one would expect from a tape with fixed eq settings and a weak tweakable eq in addition and with an even weaker comp. I like some eqs by AA, but Taupe is no tape for me at all, just a weak channel strip with pretty high cpu usage and a distracting gui and totally overpriced.
There is no urgent need for a tape sim plugin in general for me, sometimes rather as delay or flanger fx (waves tape plugins also), rarely on master or mix bus.
That's just my experience and opinion

If I buy a tape VST today it will be Audiothing Reels. I didn't even know i wanted this thing. I thought it was a normal tape VST. I didn't realise it's a noisy lo-fi tape VST until just now.

It is awesome, but it isn't tape. Technically it's more related to Wires, although it sounds much more hifi than a wire recorder.

THIS! Softube tape had the top spot til IK came out with theirs.IF your computer can handle it which mine barely does. I can't use it on every song. Depends on how busy it is.

The IK Tape emulation doesn't sound bad but it lowers the RMS level of the track while your peak level is matched.It does something to the dynamic range.Strange...Do I miss something?
And yeah the cpu is almost killed with one instance.For me it is a no go.

If IK Tape has a EQ mix control it'll solve all my issues.
EQ on those are REALLY strong, forcing you working with it from the beginning and not just to enhance.

i like using Magnetite from black rooster audio because its very easy to use and great sounds. also recently i tried chowtape and its pretty awesome and it has oversampling modes but beware cpu hog.

I love the sound of tape... as an effect. I spent about 15-20 years doing my best to make the fact that I was using tape as unnoticed as possible. Now I pay to add it.

I’d never put it on the 2 bus, but I would load up a specific track with one. I like...

I appreciate this might be true, but it's just too expensive and the CPU usage is also a barrier. If it uses convolution then I suspect it is also latent, which is a serious deal breaker for me

Was the CPU usage high inside a DAW? Just wondering if it's lower in standalone mode.
