Hello,

For mixing and plug ins effects in particular Techno / Trance production, better to equip yourself with Fabfilter or Soundtoys 5?

If you have other suggestions, don't hesitate.

Avoid packs, you'll almost certainly not use everything, or even most items in them, to the extent they'll be poor value. Hence it's a non-question

Soundtoys Decapitator and Crystallizer are pretty heavily used by a lot of Techno producers, and so are Fabfilter Pro-Q3, Pro-MB, and Pro-L.

No idea what DAW you're using. If you have Ableton Live, you have most of the tools you need. Decapitator might be a first easy choice. Saturation is a not-so-secret weapon.

What makes Decapitator so nice is you can get great sounding saturation quickly with very little messing around.

Different animals really. Soundtoys for creative FX but FF for all the way for mixing (I know they have some basic fx).

I can replicate lots of different fx with the myriad of plugs available. But you can't beat FF quality.

I reworded your question to give you my opinion.

I have most of the FF stuff and Soundtoys 5 and I wouldn't want to be without either of them. Where they do overlap (e.g., delays, saturation, filters), I tend to prefer the Soundtoys offerings. That said, I use Simplon (filter) extensively for basic filtering needs, but when I want a more complex filter I prefer FilterFreak over Volcano.

No need for other effects plug-ins if I understand correctly (reverb / delay / compressor..etc ..)? Regarding the reverb, the one from FF is a good product?

Yes, the verb is very good too... The EQ and the limiter are just outstanding.

Both are used by many producers and studios.
They are different, both are excellent.

Since Techno and Trance production varies considerably, I recommend trying the demos and see what you prefer.

Yes, the FF reverb is very good. I think if you get both of those bundles you are good to go for almost everything.

I actually agree with leeleema though. You will end up with a few plugins you don't need in any case. PLUS, those plugin packs probably won't contain quality plugins only, but, some of them will be pretty mediocre.

If I was the OP, I'd do the following: Veryify what I want (really, asking which fx plugins to buy for Techno/Trance is rather... vague), and if I know which kind of plugins I need (mixing plugins, effect plugins, MIDI plugins), I'd ask what are good plugins for the specific use cases, and buy those one by one. OR, which is the best IMO, for now, stick to free plugins, and the DAW included ones. Unless you have an idea which ones you make the most use of, and where they lack, in comparison to good payware. That's how I do it actually.

I think the most relevant ones, to give a remote idea, are reverb, delay, chorus, phaser, and a trance gate. I wouldn't buy a compressor, because, IMO, only people with a very good ear, and lots of experience really hear the difference between a shitty and a good compressor. I wouldn't get an EQ either, for the same reason. The DAW included one really will do for now, I believe.

So, basically, what I'd recommend is make up your mind first. Otherwise you will buy expensive stuff which you might not even need, or you want to get rid of at some point, when you're more advanced, because you had no idea what you bought when you had no idea what you want. That will save you - money, bad or not useful recommendations, and plugins which just don't sound the way you want them to sound.
