Hi guys. I just bought one of these, and it really isn't very good.
https://tascam.com/us/product/us-16x08/top

I'll hang onto it, and bring it out when I need to record drums (that's why I bought it), but from day to day I can get by with a little one (1 or 2 inputs), so long as the input and output sounds good.
I don't want to get a super high end one ($150 - $200), I'm looking at Presonus or Focusrite, and I believe Steinberg have a popular little one.
I'll do the Google-ing... Just thought I'd ask here too.

Thanks. :tu:

Yeah, check out the Steinberg UR22C. I'm very happy with my two Steinberg audio interfaces (UR22 mk2 and UR12).

Can you be more specific about what isn't very good about the Tascam interface? I can't imagine buying an entry-level interface is going to make you happier, but maybe the problem you're having isn't audio quality.

In your price range, the best 1 input interface would be the Audient ID4.
With 2 inputs, a Steinberg UR22.

or the MOTU M2 @ around $170
very pleased with my result over the last couple of months using this piece
best of luck

Zoom UAC2 is pretty decent - excellent drivers (with Intel chipset - others can be problematic), very good output and good pre-amps.

Behringer is the king of that price range, get U-Phoria 204HD.

My 1st post on KVR!

Same here. I recently picked up an M2 and I love it. I upgraded from a first generation Focusrite 8i6 which always gave me issues with having to crank the preamp to get a decent input level.

You might also check out the SSL 2+

I don't own it personally but since it's from SSL it should have decent preamps. A bit above your price range 'though ($255)

NI Komplete Audio 1 is £75 ...

I own the original AK1 and its been a great interface. Still going strong after 14 years ... I've been looking into the KA6 for some extra ins & outs plus 2 headphone outs with individual volume controls.

Well, this is a little more than your price range, but I really love my Apogee One as a simple interface for headphones and when I just need a single input. It has plenty of power to drive my BeyerDynamic and AKG headphones. It's super portable and bus-powered for laptop/mobile use, too.

Check Motu M2 (even has MIDI jacks) or Evo 4.

I wonder what the OP went for.

Steinberg UR22 MK2...

No silly DSP or any other bells and whistles to get in the way of things...

Bulletproof and totally reliable because they are dead simple...

Those Yamaha preamps are very good too :)
No auto tune...
