The womans "elf"-like spoken word was a nice addition, the water in the background irritated me a little (because I have misophonia!) but I realise thats its probably the fountain.
Emotional cello was ear-catching too; liked the epic vocals also.
:phones:
Thanks for the listen Ian!

'Elf' it actually was meant to be...'Italian elf' actually...so, highly appropriate for this one about Rome!

Truth - the elven snippets were recorded and originally used in a different project a few years ago, (see below towards the end) but I thought they would fit here as well.

Misophonia - huge apologies for the water then...I know that can be a serious issue!
Me with my aging bladder...just makes me wanna pee each time I listen...it was a bugger mixing it! :)

Thanks for the listen and comments...

Yeah, it's 90 seconds or so until what some would call the 'main' section...and I can see why it comes across as an ' intro' as such...

The story in my head gives it more meaning than that (and it'll hopefully be the same for the project it was written for) but the narrative will probably lost on a lot of more general listeners...understood! :)

Thanks for the listen and feedback... Yeah, it's definitely got a summer vibe in some ways.

Hope that serious cold snap is finally fading away over there!

the song basically starts. Very beautiful, soulful. And the nice
thing: there is an increase in it, it is getting more and more
beautiful! Great, well done! :tu:
Many thanks for the listen and comments... Glad you picked up the rise in intensity!

The 'intro' - yeah, if you take it that way, it's a tad long for some! 😂 My narrative for the project gave it a definite role beyond just an intro to a main section, but I do understand how it comes across that way to many listeners... Fair point.

Your pieces always have a strong sense of narrative. Very detailed but restrained in the right ways.
Thanks for sharing!

I like the way this slowly progresses from an "abstract" intro into a more conventionally structured piece of music. I enjoyed the "intro" (both the sounds and the length of it). Attention-span isn't really an issue here. It's not like I've been overwhelmed with a choice of places to be for the last 50 weeks.

I really liked the mix, particularly during the xaphoon/guitar/dulcimer/duduk section, which was full of clarity and was a very pleasant, melodic journey.

Good work :)

The field recordings opening immediately reminded me of a trip to Paris where I recorded so much of the city. Not saying I recognized the city, but did on the hustle and bustle of a city. I would have wished for more of such and the slight little bit in the end was not enough for my tastes.
But alas you're taking a different turn.

I quite like the instrumentation you use to create an eastern feel, very soothing.
Overall, very delicate and tranquil atmosphere created.

master mark wow, that's some professional music. and the production - now i'm jealous. :o
3d stage... you really know what you are doing.

even at the risk of making me unpopular: the peak notes of the melody at 3:20 and following (the c and the b flat -? is this right in english...?) wear out a bit too quickly due to the repetitions (for my taste, but maybe thats only my "classical" brain :) ) but overall fantastic track!
it is better to have a track with some mistakes than a track without any soul

Cheers, Tim...I think that 'clash' of styles is not necessarily for everyone...glad you thought it worked!

Yeah...it's been pretty much a full 12 months...crap, you're right! Hopefully some sort of 'normality' (new brand quite possibly) is in sight?

Cheers for that - this one was a sod to balance...especially that bloody resonant Xaphoon library and my broken old dulcimer (which I've just been 'reliably' informed is a North African Qanun)...still needs maintenance! :)

i think a ,lot of more 'ambient' artists might've wanted that first section to go on longer! :)

Originally the whole piece was like that...7 mins, but for me it lacked the narrative thread that I wanted for this project!
delicate and tranquil atmosphere
More than happy with that response! :)

Don't ever worry about criticizing my music! :) I know already that you'll do it in a 'good' way...always raise anything about it that you think could be improved...musically or production-wise!:)

I think you're referring to the dulcimer melody in the middle section...yeah it is sort of repetitive with little, subtle variations...i could've been more adventurous with it maybe, but I really wanted something 'solid' as a pivot in the piece before it moved into it's second half...sort of kept it restrained quite deliberately.

Many thanks for the listen and comments...it's always appreciated.

Oh man, finally got around to it!

Well, here are my impressions: first off, I love it! I'm a big fan of "story music", as long as it's ambiguous enough to let me imagine my own story to it. Which is why I stopped reading your post after "my musical intention with this..." (I read it afterwards).
The beginning is that rare breed of good ambient - engaging, with great ebb and flow. You handled the transitions really well, the guitar and those lovely splashy sounds in the background were a welcome respite after the initial tension. Later on, you pulled off another miracle: the spoken word and "ethnic" singing worked really well for me, and usually I'm allergic to stuff like that.
I don't know if you like comparisons to other artists (usually a touchy subject), but this was like Tim Hecker meets Dead can Dance, which is very cool. Thanks for sharing!
