How do I make this sound from Nitzerr Ebb

William Orbit did some fantastic Nitzer Ebb remixes. It is easier to make out what is happening if you listen to the album version below. It is a very percussive bass sound sent through a delay with reverb. I think it is four 16th notes followed by an 8th note.
They said in an interview that they would layer an FM synth on top of an analog synth where the FM synth would provide just the attack and the analog synth would provide the body of the sound.

Sounds very much like an fm synth. I'd recommend using light modulation from an operator at 1:2 and then a longer deeper modulation from an operator at 3:1 that will give you a squelchy rubbery sound like that. Just rough starting points. Most fm synths will get you there. I'd stick with sine wave operators.
